To sign up for an event this month and receive a month of free Garbage to Garden service, RSVP by email and we will help answer any questions you may have. Then simply send confirmation of your volunteer hours to volunteer@garbagetogarden.org to receive credit.

Join us for Fall Festival! 


Fall Festival at Wolfe's Neck Center is coming up! This features local food, hayrides, fall crafts, and more. Volunteers will help to monitor waste stations and sort compost, recycling, and trash throughout the events while enjoying the cool breeze and a beautiful view. Volunteer with the Maine Medical Center (MMC) Food Pantry!

The MMC Food Pantry provides healthy food to our community members who are experiencing food insecurity.

Unloading / Re-Stocking Support: Monday & Wednesday (12:00pm-2:30pm) at 950 Congress Street in Portland

Assist on delivery days to unload pallets/vehicles and restock the main pantry area, as well as the back storage room. MONDAYS: This is a physically demanding shift and the ability to lift 25-50 lbs is preferable for the safety of volunteers. WEDNESDAYS: This is a good opportunity for volunteers with lower lifting capacity.

Anyone interested needs to complete an application on Volunteer Local. Once an application is complete, someone from MMC will reach out.

Sunday, Sep 24th - Saturday, Sep 30th
Daily shifts: 11am-1pm, 1pm-3pm, 4pm-6pm

Volunteers will help to sort waste, making sure as much as possible ends up in the compost or recycling! Volunteer with us for two hours to earn a month of free service and a T-shirt!
Thursday 10/26/23: 5 - 7pm Gourmet Graze, an intimate cheese and chocolate tasting
Friday 10/27/23: 1 - 3pm, Maine Lobster Chef of the year competition
Saturday 10/28/23: 1 - 3pm OR 4 - 6 pm, Maine Oysterfest with Maine Oyster Co.

Come door hanging with us!

In partnership with the City of Portland, we are working to promote composting efforts across Portland. We will be leading street teams to help distribute door hangers.

October 17th, 9 - 11am

To sign up for a shift, OR, if you are not available at the above times but interested on door hanging on your own time, email us!
Help us bag compost!

Compost bagging happens weekly on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at our shop in Portland (as long as it is not raining). Come lend a hand for ~1.5 hours in exchange for one month of free service! Arrive anytime 9am-11am. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty!

Help Clean up the Garden in Brunswick!

Join the Brunswich-Topsham Land Trust as they prepare their community garden for winter. No gardening experience needed! They will be at the Tom Settlemire Community Garden in Brunswick on Saturday October 14th, from 2-4pm.

Ruth's reusable resources is looking for volunteers to help provide all Maine students with the materials they need to be successful in the classroom. Please see below to see if this is an opportunity you're interested in!
