Director of Discovery and Outreach
Dear Parents:
Welcome to the world of Discovery, one distinctive of Valor that engages your student through service.
Valor requires every student to fulfill service hours, as many schools do. But here you'll find a structured process that exists to transform lives by helping students develop a love for Jesus Christ and consequently be motivated to serve others.
Your student's time at Valor includes the opportunity to Go, Serve, and Transform. Beyond serving our community, experiencing other cultures, and seeing the world, Discovery is designed to facilitate:
Positive Modeling – Structured settings where your student can see Christ modeled through team leaders and those we serve;
Spiritual Growth – An openness to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and a desire to draw closer to Him, perhaps leading to a first-time or renewed commitment to follow Jesus;
Focus on Others – An opportunity to step out of our me-focused culture and find the God-given joy in selfless, sacrificial service; and
Applied Learning – Unique and powerful opportunities to see classroom learning come alive in real time, while developing servant leadership skills.
Now and through summer, you can find Discovery highlighted on the Incoming Students Information page.

Why Serve With Discovery?

There are so many reasons for your student to serve with Discovery. Check out the stories from Valor students who have served throughout the Denver area, the nation, and the world. Then take a few minutes to watch this video of some of our students in action.

Service Hours Requirement

There is a 100 service hour requirement before graudation, and we encourage students to spread their service equally across four years so that service becomes integrated into their high school experience. To meet Valor requirements, hours must be served with pre-approved organizations which are primarily faith-based and which work with the poor and marginalized. Check the list of approved organizations, or email us to request pre-approval for an organization that is not already on the list.
Your incoming student can even start fulfilling service hours over the summer. Explore your options or email us for updates about group service opportunities.

Discovery Experiences

Did you know that more than 400 Valor students served throughout the world during 2018–19 school year? Discovery experiences are open to students in all grade levels, and students must meet specified criteria to be eligible for team consideration. We are still planning for 2019–20, but past experiences will give you an idea of what's to come.

Discovery Night

You and your student can learn about 2019–20 Discovery experiences at Discovery Night on Sunday, October 6. You'll get to meet leaders, ask questions and learn from ministry partners. Applications for all experiences will open at the end of the night. For more information, email us.

Thanks for taking the time to read this Discovery update. We'll see you again next Thursday for a special message about Parent Community!
