Dear DF/HCC Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Carol Lowenstein as Director of the Health Communication Core (HCC) and the Survey and Qualitative Methods Core (SQMC) of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. As some of you know, Carol has been serving as Interim Assistant Director of HCC over the last year.

Carol comes to this role with outstanding experience in management and operations of cores. Carol’s expertise and experience is in shared resource and cancer registry operations and management. She joined the Survey and Qualitative Methods Core (SQMC) in 2009 as Assistant and then Associate Director, and the Health Communication Core (HCC) as Interim Assistant Director in 2021. She moved to Dana-Farber after ten years as the Assistant Director of the DF/HCC’s Rapid Case Identification Core at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. Prior to this she worked for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, as Assistant Director for Registry Operations after having moved from a position overseeing the Santa Clara Regional SEER Registry, comprising four counties of the CA Cancer Registry.

As Interim Assistant Director of HCC, Carol played an extremely important role in streamlining the Core’s operations, and developing SOPs and sound financial management practices. She has also worked hard to get familiar with the HCC's staff and mission. In her current role as Director of the HCC and SQMC, she will be responsible for the administrative oversight of day-to-day activities including financial management of the cores, oversight of core services provided to investigators, assessing the research needs of investigators and planning for core growth. She is also the right person to handle developing synergies across cores in terms of operations and programming.

We are delighted to have someone with Carol’s experience and expertise as Director of two critical cores within DF/HCC. We look forward to continue to serve the needs of DF/HCC investigators.

With best wishes,
