Mark Bixby Village Now Open!

We are excited to share that the construction of five new cabins in Mark Bixby Village at Y Camp Oakes is complete! These cabins will allow us to serve more children and families throughout the year. They were designed specifically with the wide variety of campers we serve in mind. The bed set-up allows more floor space for wheelchairs or more headroom for adults. The new cabins are divided into two smaller living spaces which can be completely separated allowing for two completely different groups to use the same cabin without having to interact. The divider can be retracted to create a larger single-connected cabin. This increased versatility makes the best use of space and gives our camp the flexibility needed to serve a variety of group sizes.
A special thank you to our Capital Campaign Co-Chairs, Jean Bixby Smith, and Mike Jensen for their dedication to this project and to all of our supporters for helping make this project possible.

2019 Heritage Club and Chairman's Roundtable Appreciation Dinner

On October 2nd, we celebrated the YMCA of Greater Long Beach’s Heritage Club and Chairman’s Roundtable Donor Appreciation Dinner. This was a special evening celebrating two groups of our most dedicated supporters. We had a great turn out in the beautiful sculpture garden at the Museum of Latin American Art. There was an upbeat and festive atmosphere with great food and conversation. Our program highlighted our generous donors and the impact they are making on our communities. If you are not a member of our Heritage Club, Chairman's Roundtable or Distinguished Triangle and would like to be, contact your local YMCA branch.

Youth Institute Kids

Happy 175th, YMCA!

The Y celebrated 175 years of youth-led change with a global gathering in London—the birthplace of the Y! Hosted by YMCA Europe in partnership with YMCA England, the World Alliance of YMCAs and YMCA of the USA, YMCA175 brought together more than 3,500 young leaders (ages 16-35) from Ys around the world including five from our own Community Development Youth Institute. This was their first international trip and for some, their first time on a plane. To learn more about their trip, visit their travel blog here.
In 2017 the federal government passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act reducing tax rates and increasing the standard deduction to $12,000 for single filers and $24,000 for joint filers. As the end of year approaches, now may be the ideal time to review your important financial decisions. You may want to consider a few strategies that can provide you with both tax and non-tax benefits.
