Greetings Eagle Families!
This week we are sharing a number of resources to help ready your students for the fall semester. If your student has questions about how to navigate Eagle Service for course registration, we offer Drop-in Hours. Our first New Eagle Essentials webinar is this Tuesday evening, and it will give you a chance to meet some of the campus staff who will help your student thrive at AU. And our Soar & Support online modules introduce parents to some of the resources available to students.
Now that your student has begun registering for classes, a student billing statement has been created online at Eagle Service. The bill may not be complete yet, as your student may be on a waitlist, and housing and dining charges have not yet been applied. On July 1, an email will be sent to students (and their proxies) directing them to view the complete bill online. Please read on for information about the meal plans available; an explanation of the mandatory fees on the student account; and an overview of the health insurance plan.
Finally, as your student thinks about life on campus, we want to be sure they make AU feel like home. View information on what to pack (and what not to pack) for residence halls and Save the Dates for virtual community welcomes!

| Eagle Service Drop-in Hours |
📚 Course registration is well underway for all new students! If your student has questions about the logistics of registering for first-semester courses, direct them to join our Orientation Chairs for Eagle Service Drop-in Hours. While Orientation Chairs are students and cannot give academic advice (that's where academic advisors assist!), but they can walk your student through how to navigate Eagle Service and the course registration process.
For a full schedule of drop-in hours and Zoom links, students should visit the Eagle Service Drop-in Hours page in the Flight Ready! Canvas course.

💰 The first bill is right around the corner! On or around July 1, an email will be sent to students (and any established proxies), notifying them that their bill is ready to be viewed online.
Fall payment is due Thursday, August 1.
The bill will show a number of line items. Here is a quick breakdown of what each of those mandatory fees are for:
|
-
Metro UPass: The UPass program enables full-time AU students to take unlimited rides of DC's Metrobus and Metrorail systems during the academic year.
-
Student Orientation Program Fee: This is a one-time charge applied to all registered first-year and transfer students to support programs, resources, and services that help new Eagles integrate with the AU community.
|
A vast majority of universities, including American University, have a tuition and mandatory fee policy. With this type of policy, mandatory fees are assessed to all (or groups) of students in order to help defray associated costs, not based on actual usage of an individual student. For a full breakdown of the mandatory fees you'll find in your student bill, please visit the Student Accounts website.

| 🦅 Soar & Support is AU’s online pre-orientation program that provides parents with the resources they need to support their new AU Eagle.
Access the course here (see previous newsletters for detailed log-in instructions).

🍽️ Whether students are stopping in for a quick bite or they have specific dietary restrictions or wellness goals in mind, the variety of AU's dining options makes it easy to meet student needs. Student organizations, Auxiliary Services, and the Office of Sustainability work together to provide the campus community with food that is locally sourced, ethically produced, healthy, and delicious.
The main dining space on campus is the Terrace Dining Room (TDR), located in the Mary Graydon Center. Right now, TDR is undergoing renovations in preparation for the fall semester, so get excited for a brand new dining experience! In addition to TDR, campus also has a number of well-known eateries, including Qdoba and Panera.
Students living on campus are required to purchase a meal plan, but you have a choice between two different plans. All on-campus eateries accept payment through your One Card via meal swipes, retail meal exchanges, and/or Dining Dollars. To learn more about the on-campus meal plans on the One Card and Dining Services, visit their website by using the button below.

📋 Not only are all AU students required to have health insurance, but it is a good practice to demonstrate, too. All students are automatically charged for health insurance once they register full-time, but have the option to submit a waiver request if you are already covered by a comparable insurance plan. To determine if your insurance qualifies as a comparable plan, visit the AU Central website.
The deadline to submit a health insurance waiver is Monday, September 9.
