Picture of the Week

On Tuesday, Brebeuf Jesuit was fortunate to be able host Judy Shepard as our speaker at the first all-school convocation of the school year. She shared her powerful story, inspired our students to be voices for love rather than hate, and shared her guidance on how to be involved in the process for positive change.
Mrs. Shepard (back row, center) also graciously had lunch with the cast and crew of the upcoming Fall Play - The Laramie Project.

Loves About Brebeuf
I love the freedom that Brebeuf’s schedule allows. On breaks, I am able to manage my own time and use the many spaces available to eat, study, and hang out. I also love the ability students have to spend time with teachers and other faculty on breaks. This has allowed me to have a close relationship with my past and present teachers, Father Jack, Dr. Fadely, Mr. VanSlambrook, Dean Adams, and many others.
Class You Are Most Looking Forward to This Year
This year I am most looking forward to my AP Physics C class with Mr. Ellis. Although this class is often regarded as the most difficult class at Brebeuf, the material is extremely interesting. I believe that this class will be a serious challenge, but will also fully prepare me for any college physics or engineering course (according to Mr. Ellis).
Future Plans
I plan on becoming a commissioned officer in the United States military. I am in the process of applying to the U.S. Naval Academy and West Point. I am also applying for NROTC at Notre Dame and Purdue. Some of my potential career paths include Marine Force Recon, Army Ranger, and Navy SEAL. In college I plan on majoring in Economics, Systems Engineering, or Mathematics. I also intend to someday earn a Master's Degree in Business Administration.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Football
Lacrosse
Executive Council
Ignatian Scholars
National Honors Society
Student Athletic Leadership Team
Entrepreneurship Club
Investment Club
Random Fact(s)
Over winter break my junior year, I attended Sea Cadets Recruit Training in Marseilles, IL at a National Guard base. The program was run by Marines, and they began the training by shaving all of our heads. I kicked off the year of 2017 by waking up at 2:00 a.m. because I was assigned night watch. I had to patrol the barracks for two hours on January 1 while everyone slept. So you could say that 2017 started off pretty great for me.
What are you most looking forward to during this school year?
I am most looking forward to my last season of high school football. We have a strong team this year led by 20 seniors. We are working toward being the first Brebeuf football team to win a state championship. I am also looking forward to hearing back from colleges and the NROTC board to see what the future holds.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc.?
My go-to tv shows include How I Met Your Mother, The Office, and Impractical Jokers.
What advice would you offer our newest Braves in the Class of 2021?
Take advantage of every opportunity you have because you gain skills and experience through everything you do. This includes trying new sports, going on a service trip, joining a club, going to a camp, etc. One day you will try something new and discover your passion in life.
Congratulations to our National Merit Semifinalists!
The following seniors were recently named National Merit Semifinalists, having scored in the top 1% of students nationally in last year’s PSAT:
Christopher Doehring
Fletcher King
Andrew Lewis
Ana Singhal
Tanner Waltz
McCaffery Zoeller
These six students have been invited to apply for consideration as finalists in the next round of the National Merit Scholarship Program. Congratulations, Chris, Fletcher, Andrew, Ana, Tanner, and Mac!
