Boulder Library Foundation marks
25 years of funding BPL Summer Reading Program!
This summer marks 25 years of the Boulder Library Foundation funding the Summer Reading program. The first grant for the Summer Reading Program, in 1992, was for $1,850, the theme was “Just Read It” and was run by Library Specialist Cathi McCrae. This year’s theme “Build A Better World,” encourages participants aged 0 - 18 to read during the summer months and take advantage of the free hands-on activities.
The Boulder Library Foundation would like to thank all its donors and members of the Library League of Boulder. Your generosity keeps library programming, such as the Summer Reading Program, possible! Thank you.
Share your experiences of this summer’s program on social media using #BoulderSummerReading25

"My family and I are trekking to Wyoming to see the total solar eclipse on August 21, so I was excited even before I picked up this wonderful book. Frank Close is an emeritus Oxford physics professor and umbraphile. Ahead of this summer's event, which he plans to view with two of his grandchildren, he put down his memories of the other total solar eclipses he's seen, including descriptions of the exotic locations he's traveled to for them (Zambia, Libya, the middle of the Pacific Ocean....). Interspersed with interesting and amusing anecdotes, he's also included clear explanations and diagrams of the science behind the rare phenomenon. But even better is the wonder that Close obviously still feels in the presence of eclipses. "Even for a humanist," he writes, "the vision was such that I thought, 'If there is a heaven, this is what its entrance looks like.' Highly recommended!"--Terzah, Collection Development Dept.
