Community 'Smart sewer' technology saves South Bend nearly $450M
Sewer overflows in South Bend will be a thing of the past by 2038. Researchers in the College of Engineering partnered with the city and EmNet, an IDEA Center startup, to develop a cost-effective way to prevent overflows into local waterways. ( More...)

UniversityNew director of Nanovic Institute namedClemens Sedmak, professor of social ethics in the Keough School of Global Affairs and a concurrent professor of theology, has been named the director of the Nanovic Institute for European Studies. ND in the NewsOp-ed on Afghanistan in The Hill
Mahan Mirza, the executive director of the Rafat and Zoreen Ansari Institute for Global Engagement with Religion, is an opinion contributor in The Hill. He wrote, "To engage the Taliban, the US needs an honest debate on Sharia law." The article comes on the heels of recent events in Afghanistan and discusses processes and possibilities toward peace. Campus Columbus Murals in Main Building temporarily uncovered
For instructional purposes, the Columbus Murals on the second floor of the Main Building will be uncovered on two occasions during the fall semester: from Monday, Aug. 30, to Tuesday, Sept. 7, and from Monday, Oct. 25, through Friday, Oct. 29. Signage near the murals will indicate that the coverings have been removed to allow instructors and their students to engage with and discuss the murals. VenueND, Notre Dame's centralized office for conferences, meetings, events and weddings, has a new name — Experience Notre Dame.
