We are excited to welcome George Spencer, PhD, back to NYU Steinhardt as an assistant professor in the Higher Education program. Professor Spencer was selected after a long and extensive search, and this is a happy homecoming; he completed his postdoc here almost five years ago before becoming an assistant professor at the University of Georgia. 

Professor Spencer shared the following: “I am very excited to return to New York University as an assistant professor next fall. I have fond memories of my time in the ALT department during my postdoctoral fellowship largely because of the amazing community. I look forward to reconnecting with my former colleagues and collaborating with the new faculty and students on research supporting college access and success for students from marginalized backgrounds.”

Department Chair Professor Teboho Moja said, “We welcome George Spencer back to the Program and with his expertise and passion, we are confident that he will not only teach but also ignite a passion for learning in our students. Here's to a fruitful and fulfilling journey ahead!” 

On Tuesday, April 18, The Steinhardt Institute for Higher Education Policy hosted Professor Flavio Carvalhaes in a conversation entitled “How Do Race and Class Shape Access to Higher Education in Brazil?” Professors Ann Marcus and Erich Dietrich were the host and respondent, respectively.
