Gold Seal Represents Our Committment To Quality

I am very proud to announce that we have once again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Accreditation in all hospital services by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards.

The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects our organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. This reaccreditation represents our top priority as an institution: High quality and safe care for our community and region.

Our facilities underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review this June. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management, and rights and responsibilities of the individual.

Introducing Three Very Talented Providers

As we continue to expand our services and specialties to provide quality care close to home, I am very pleased to introduce three new providers to our community. Two of these providers are proud New Mexico natives. In these physicians' respective areas of Cardiology, ENT and OB/GYN, Memorial is elevating the breadth and level of healthcare available in Southern New Mexico.

Please read on to learn more about each of these talented individuals:

Abdul Ahad Khan, MD, FACC, RPVI: Dr. Khan is a Board-Certified Interventional Cardiologist who joins the team that is elevating heart care in Southern New Mexico. He specializes in interventional cardiology, vascular heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, hypertension, heart failure and arrhythmias.

His passion for cardiology stems from his childhood, when he saw his grandmother pass away from heart failure. He believes that with timely care, we can not only save patients’ lives, but also reduce their chance of developing heart failure and associated complications.

Colin Byrd, DO: Dr. Byrd is an Otolaryngologist who sees patients of all ages to assist with their ear, nose and throat needs. He specializes in providing care for chronic ear disease, hearing loss, dizziness and cochlear implantation; allergy and sinus disease; thyroid and parathyroid disorders; salivary grand tumors; and voice and swallow disorders.

As an undergraduate at the University of New Mexico, Dr. Byrd become fascinated with the science of medicine, eventually finding ENT to be his passion and true calling.

Amelia Clement, MD, MSCI: Dr. Clement specializes in comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare; preconception counseling and prenatal care; complex contraception management; adolescent gynecological care; and high-risk pregnancy management.

A New Mexico native, Dr. Clement has always dreamed of returning to the state to practice medicine. She is dedicated to ensuring that the women of Southern New Mexico have access to high quality, comprehensive health services close to home.

Doing Our Part To Honor Our Nation's Heroes

We were extremely honored to be the send-off facility for the 14th mission of the Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico and El Paso. The flight sent area World War II, Korean and Vietnam War veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built to honor and remember those who served. Through this program, every veteran is taken on the flight at no cost to themselves.

The veterans and their guardians departed our facility in the early morning honors of Sept. 29, and returned to Memorial with much fanfare the evening of Oct. 1. For many Korean War and Vietnam War combat veterans, this provided the homecoming they never received after returning from these conflicts.

Thank you to all our employees and community members who came out to show their support for these heroes!
