Garfield County Tax Assesment
There have been a lot of questions amongst community members surrounding the recent valuations assigned from the Garfield county assessors office.
The 2023 Notices of Value were sent out on May 1, 2023. The 2023/2024 values are based on the real estate market between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2022. You may appeal your value to the Assessor no later than June 8, 2023. Instructions on how to appeal are on your Notice of Value. For more information, please see the Appeals page on the Garfield County Website.
Green Tip | Sustainable Travel
Please enjoy the following eco-friendly tidbit brought to you by Friends of the Environment:
Planning a trip or two this summer? Here are some tips for traveling sustainably. If flying, try to travel non-stop as this is more fuel efficient than multiple flights. Travel during the off season or shoulder season to alleviate the environmental burden on popular destinations. Bring your reusable water bottle. Take a walking, biking, or river tour. Choose a sustainable rental car option like an EV or hybrid car. Find an ecofriendly hotel that is committed to emissions reduction and smart water use. And finally, shop and eat locally.
Featured Photo
This week's featured photo comes to us from RVR residents, Marti and Ted Stude. Ted writes, "allowing the tall grasses and wildflowers in “naturalized” areas of RVR to go to seed provides good habitat for foxes, because they feed on the mice and voles that feed on the seeds. That is one reason why it is good environmental practice to only mow these areas only when the plants are dormant – in addition to saving on the energy and other costs associated with mowing." Thank you for your insight and lovely picture, Marti and Ted!
We'd like to feature your picture in an upcoming newsletter. If you're interested in having your photo highlighted in the weekly news, please submit images to: jessica.hennessy@rvrma.org.

Did You Know? |
RVR Board Elections
RVR is a special place and there are various details about the community that many may not be aware of. To help inform homeowners about all of RVR's unique features, we will run a "Did You Know" section each week in the newsletter.
RVRMA is governed by the RVRMA Executive Board, which consists of seven members (elected or appointed). RVR's management team takes care of day-to-day operations; the Board’s role is more sharply focused on strategy, policy and governance.
Board members who serve agree to a three year term and according to RVRMA By Laws, there are no term limits. Every June, a portion of RVRMA Board Member terms expire. This summer three board member terms will expire including, Todd Richmond, Board Treasure, Laura Hanssen, Member-at-large and Ben Johnston, Board Secretary. If any of these board members are interested, they may continue to serve and can do the same as any other homeowner: declare their candidacy. The deadline for doing so is Friday, June 16.
For homeowners who are interested in declaring their candidacy for an upcoming vacant board seat, they can do so by filling out a Statement of Interest. You can find more on how to declare your candidacy and other election news including a timeline of election events in next week's newsletter.

Reminders & Highlights

RVR Hiking Group
New hiking group for the RVR community! We’ll plan to hike every Monday, unless weather doesn’t cooperate. The first few hikes will be on the easy side, as we strengthen our bodies and minds.
Suggested items to bring include sunscreen, a hat, hiking poles, water, snacks and/or whatever will make your hike more enjoyable.
We had a beautiful day last Monday at Sutey Ranch. On Monday, May 29, we’ll go to Fischer Creek, another hike to ease into the season. Please meet at the trailhead by 9 a.m.

Crystal River Restoration Re-Cap
If you missed the Crystal River Restoration Presentation at the Ranch House last Monday, we invite you to view the Power Point of the presentation below.
Bears Wake From a Long Winter’s Nap
As we transition into warmer weather, we would like to remind everyone that bears are coming out of hibernation and they are hungry! Bears can be attracted to our area by trash being left out overnight, bird feeders, pet food, barbeque grills and compost.  Please do your part to keep the bears safe and out of the neighborhood.
Youth Gym & Safety Course
At the April 26 board meeting, the board approved a change to the RVRMA Rules & Regulations regarding the minimum age requirements for fitness facility users. Previously, the rule stated users under 15 years old were not permitted on the second-floor fitness facility. The board approved the following change:
Children under the age of fifteen (15) are not permitted in the second floor Fitness Center of the Ranch House unless:
  1. The child is at least the age of eleven (11) and is exercising under the supervision of their parent. The parent must remain with the child in the gym.

  2. The child is at least the age of eleven (11) and is exercising under the supervision of an RVR approved personal trainer and has permission from their parents and RVR management.

  3. The child is at least the age of thirteen (13) and has completed a course with an RVR approved fitness instructor for gym etiquette and safety, and parents of the child have completed an additional waiver for their child to use the gym without their supervision.

Do you have a 13- or 14-year-old teen who would like to use the gym without a parent?  Click here to learn more about the process.
