Imagining Our Futures: A Community Art Exhibition

Join for a reception, exhibition viewing, and staged readings created for the Imagining Our Futures Artifact Collection!

In April 2024, the AfroRithm Futures Group, a consultancy inspired by the Afrofuturist movement, engaged members of the Lawrence and KU communities in “game-ified” storytelling sessions designed to facilitate contemplating more equitable futures. In order to extend the rich discussions that took place, local artists were invited to create tangible “artifacts” that communicated their own visions of the future. Selected works will be on display at the Lawrence Arts Center through Wednesday, September 25.

Art Cart: Tattoo You

Take inspiration from the exhibition Inked Bodies and create your own temporary tattoo design. 

The Art Cart is a free drop-in activity station that rolls into the galleries each month for children and grown-ups to create hands-on art projects together, taking inspiration from original art on view. 🎨 🐛 

Admission to this event and to the Spencer is free for everyone, always. Free parking is available in designated spaces on the first level of the Mississippi Street garage across from the Museum. Check in at the Welcome Desk with your license plate number for parking validation. 🚗 

KU Black Creatives & KU Gems | Fashion Show & Art Gala

KU Black Creatives is teaming up with KU Gems to bring you the Fashion Show & Art Gala of the semester on October 17th! They’re on the lookout for: fashion designers ready to showcase their work, models (no experience needed) to bring designers creation to life, visual artists wanting to show off their talent, and nail artists, makeup artists, and hair stylists.

KC Parade of Hearts sculpture redesign  

Design the new base sculpture for Kansas City’s Parade of Hearts . The new form will serve as the canvas for artists to share their love for KC in a region-wide art installation during the 2026 World Cup.

LaunchKU – Fundraising for Student Groups 

LaunchKU is a crowdfunding initiative that helps KU students, faculty and staff raise funds for programs that are the most meaningful to them. Crowdfunding is a great way for donors to provide direct support to students and programs – and encourage others to contribute, as well! In the last year, LaunchKU has helped fund student-led projects for Jayhawk Motorsports, KU Club Tennis and The Big Event.

Triangle Fraternity is hosting a back-to-school barbeque, bonfire, and more events throughout September.
