Waste Connections offers an auto-dial service to notify customers of any delays or changes in trash pickup days. If you are interested in being notified through this service, you can sign up online at www.wcdenver.com/contact/. Complete the required information, click on Residential Trash Service, then in the comment section at the bottom of the page explain that you are a Ken-Caryl resident seeking to sign up for the Call Fire service.

Dakota Lodge Focus Group
A Dakota Lodge Focus Group was formed to look at concerns by some residents regarding the use of the facility and park. The Focus Group met several times in the fall of 2016, and a summary of its findings is linked below. The Master Association and Metropolitan District Boards received the report at their December Joint Study Session. Both Boards will consider the report for final recommendations at their respective January business meetings.

Slow Down When Wildlife is Present
Motorists are encouraged to slow down if they see wildlife in the road, but please be cautious about coming to a complete stop in the roadway. The roads are often hazardous this time of year, and you could be creating a dangerous situation if you stop in the middle of the roadway. Driving the speed limit is critical this time of year. Pay attention to changes in MPH signs posted along the roadway. The following information is taken from the Colorado Driver Handbook: “Big game animals, mostly deer, are large enough to cause damage to a motor vehicle. However, the size of these animals may cause the motorist to take drastic evasive action to prevent a collision. This may result in a more serious crash than if the vehicle collided with the animal. Regretfully, the safest alternative may be hitting the animal. Concentrate on retaining control of the vehicle before, during and after the collision with the animal.”

| Christmas Tree Chipping at Brannon Gearhart ParkThe Parks Department is accepting Christmas trees for chipping again this year at Brannon Gearhart Park. Please note that trees CANNOT be dropped off at Dakota Lodge. Brannon Gearhart Park is located just east of Valley Parkway between Mahonia and Buckthorn ( see map). Simply drop off your tree in the designated area anytime between now and Jan. 15. Be sure to remove any non-coniferous items such as metallic materials and tinsel before bringing your trees because many materials can damage the chipping equipment.

| Fire Restrictions Lifted for Unincorporated Jefferson CountyJefferson County Sheriff Jeff Shrader lifted the temporary fire restriction order for all areas of unincorporated Jefferson County, including Ken-Caryl. Citizens should be reminded to use caution when starting and extinguishing campfires, disposing of lighted cigarettes, and other activities that involve the use of fire or sparks. Warm and windy days can quickly lower the fuel moisture content of trees and grasses, making them susceptible to ignition.
