Hi ,
At Tulane, living in community means more than just co-existing; it is an invitation to actively engage with one another and collectively nurture a culture of learning and growth. In the July New Student Module, titled Make Way for Community (now open!), you'll be introduced to Housing & Residence Life and discover how living and learning blend seamlessly to enrich your undergraduate experience. Plus, you'll explore how you can prepare for Move-In!
You can find the module on your Canvas Dashboard and have until July 31 to complete it. If you have not completed the May or June modules yet, please do so prior to beginning the July module.

Through transformational and purposeful learning opportunities, students living in residential communities will become engaged scholars and responsible community members.

Housing & Residence Life Educational Pillars |
- Live: At Tulane, the focus in the residential living environment is to provide more than just a bed in a room. Housing and Residence Life offers students a physical space that is clean and well-maintained as well as has amenities that support the overall student experience.
-
Learn: The residential environment at Tulane is designed to promote and support the academic mission of the university. The academic programs in the halls and the connections with faculty members reinforce this learning environment.
-
Grow: Housing and Residence Life programs encourage student growth by helping residents to understand the role they play in their campus community and the larger community as a whole.

Living in a residence hall can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your undergraduate journey. Your relationships with roommates, suitemates, and floormates will make your residence hall feel like home!
Before You Move In: Once you receive your housing assignment, reach out to your roommate(s) to introduce yourself and communicate your expectations and hopes for the room. Prior to your arrival, be sure to review the Code of Student Conduct, Housing Agreement, and Community Living Standards.

As part of Tulane’s Residential Curriculum, Housing and Residence Life offers a number of opportunities for residents to interact with faculty and peer leaders in meaningful ways. Below are just a few of the resources here to promote your engagement, inspire your learning, and empower your growth.
Faculty in Residence (FIR) |
The Faculty in Residence is a full-time faculty member who lives in a residence hall on campus and serves as a positive and visible leader, teacher, and mentor to students living in the residence halls.
Residential Faculty Mentor (RFM) |
The Residential Faculty Mentor Program aims to increase meaningful engagement between full-time faculty and first-year students in residence halls through co-curricular experiences and mentorship.
Resident Advisors are live-in student leaders who serve as role models and facilitate activities and programs in the residence halls. RAs serve in an on-call rotation for their community.
Peer Wellness Representative (PWR) |
Peer Wellness Representatives assist in developing, facilitating, and supporting programs centered around the 8 Dimensions of Wellness in our first-year halls.

Getting involved with the Newcomb Institute is an excellent opportunity to be part of a transformative movement dedicated to eradicating gender-based oppressions and fostering a more equitable world. Below are just a few of the ways you can get involved in your first year at Tulane!
Participate in one of the most popular Newcomb traditions! Previously known as Newcomb Big/Little, this program sees hundreds of undergraduates participate each year. Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors mentor first-year students, offering guidance, support, and friendship as they transition to Tulane. Newcomb Institute hosts events to help mentors and mentees connect. All first-year students are welcome to register!
| |
The Newcomb Town Mom program pairs first-year students with Newcomb or Newcomb-Tulane alumnae to ease the transition to college life. This program provides a critical connection point between incoming students and their new lives as residents of campus and New Orleans. Participation requires a time commitment from both students and alumnae, so please consider your availability before signing up.
