| Respected Sportscaster to Address Class of 2024 |
Seton Hall University will celebrate its 168th baccalaureate commencement ceremony on Tuesday, May 21 at 9 a.m. at the Prudential Center. Delivering the commencement keynote address and receiving an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters will be Gary Cohen, one of the most highly respected sportscasters. Also receiving an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters and giving brief remarks at the ceremony will be Sister Raffaella Petrini, F.S.E., a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist and Secretary-General of the Governorate of Vatican City State.

Presented by the Office of Grants and Research, learn about the difference phrases of research grants, the tools available to submit a competitive proposal and the reports, forms and compliance regulations that must be followed to satisfy the sponsor’s and Seton Hall University requirements.

May 22-23: Faculty Summer Seminar – two-day seminar featuring Michael Murphy, Ph.D., of Loyola University, Chicago on "Gracious Catastrophes,” exploring contemporary representations of mystery and mercy in the Catholic literary imagination. Faculty who attend and submit a reflective scholarly article are eligible for a stipend.

June 4-5: Faculty Summer Retreat – Now in its second year, delve into the Catholic Intellectual Tradition and Mission of the University with fellow faculty members across all disciplines through talks and practical workshop discussions as well as ample time for prayer, reflection and silence.

Philosophy Professor Combines Sports and Business Ethics in Teaching
Professor Abe Zakhem, Department of Philosophy has a special interest in applied ethics, with a specialization in business ethics and sports ethics. Zakhem's work in business ethics, as well as his professional experience as an executive manager and senior management consultant, are evident in his numerous publications. They include pieces like "Sweatshops and Free Action" (2020) Journal of Business Ethics (co-authored with Travis Timmerman); “Collective Impact Problems and the Promise for Business Ethics” (2020) Journal of Business Ethics Education; “Sporting Integrity, Coherence, and Being True to the Spirit of a Game,” (2018) Sport, Ethics, and Philosophy, and more. His book, Managing for Organizational-Ethical Integrity: Principles and Processes for Promoting Good, Right, and Virtuous Conduct (Business Expert Press, 2012), was selected by Harvard Business Publishing as part of their management case study objective.

Call for Proposals: AI Teaching & Learning Symposium
Edge and Seton Hall University are pleased to announce that the inaugural AI Teaching & Learning Symposium will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 on Seton Hall’s South Orange campus. This event will explore AI’s impact on education, including but not limited to student engagement, pedagogy, accessibility, tools and applications for EdTech, ethical considerations, and AI policy. We invite all Seton Hall community members to submit a session proposal for a panel, traditional presentation, hands-on workshop, or another instructional model. Learn more and submit a proposal.

Tips to Reduce Grading Time in Canvas
SpeedGrader allows you to review, mark up, comment, and grade student assignment submissions in one place using a simple point scale or complex rubric. Students are notified when their work has been graded and can simply log in to the course site to securely and privately access their scores and feedback. The tool can be used to grade various types of assignments in Canvas, such as uploaded papers, quizzes, and discussion posts. View tips for speeding up grading with SpeedGrader.

Reserve Bus Transportation for Commencement by Friday, May 17
For faculty, staff and administrators who need transportation to the Baccalaureate Commencement Ceremony at the Prudential Center on Tuesday, May 21, bus service from campus will be provided.
|
If you are working as an academic marshal and do not wish to drive to the Prudential Center, your bus will leave Seton Hall from the Recreation Center at 6:45 a.m. sharp.
|
If you are not working as a marshal, the bus will leave from the Recreation Center at 7:30 a.m. sharp.
|
Buses for both groups will leave the Prudential Center at approximately 12:30 p.m. for the return trip to the South Orange Campus. Please indicate on the form below if you need a ride back to campus. Seats are on a first-come basis and are limited. RSVP no later than Friday, May 17. Reserve your seat for bus transportation.

Thursday, May 2 from 10-11:30 a.m., Chancellor's Suite
The campus community is invited to participate in the upcoming in-person 'Finance Division Open Forum' with the goal of identifying current business processes and business policies that impact your ability to conduct effective and efficient University business. The outcomes of these 'Open Forums' will be shared with the community and will assist us in developing a collaborative approach to identifying and implementing system solutions, procedures and policies, resulting in more effective business services. As the Finance Division begins this in-depth assessment, we will be encouraging end-users to collaborate with us in addressing these challenges. Please recognize that a logical, systematic approach that addresses these improvements will take some time, but we are committed to the long-term improvements we can make together.
