Advances in Breast Cancer Treatment Offer New Hope
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Today, many early-stage breast cancer patients are able to have less invasive surgery than in years past. With recent advances in research and breast cancer treatment, doctors are often able to reduce the amount and intensity of treatment women receive, while maintaining equally good cancer outcomes, according to Sunny Mitchell, MD, Medical Director of The Breast Center at Montefiore Nyack Hospital. In addition, genetic testing on tumors often can help doctors determine which type of chemotherapy, if even needed, will be most effective. READ MORE

It’s not too early to get your flu shot this season. There is some evidence this might be a worse flu season than last year, so getting a flu shot is especially important. Are you at risk for type 2 diabetes? This 16-week program, facilitated by a certified diabetes educator, is free-of-charge for adults 18 or older and will meet remotely by teleconference. The National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) is a proven way for adults who have prediabetes or are at high risk for type 2 diabetes to prevent or delay diabetes. Registration is required.
