| Celebrate Black History Month at Fordham Law
|
|
|
Black History Month kicks off at Fordham Law School on Feb. 1 with cupcakes and donuts with Fordham’s Black Law Students Association, 9:00-10:00 a.m. and 5:30-6:00 p.m. on the Third Floor. The month’s programming will conclude with a movie screening of “The Color Purple” (2023) on Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. at AMC at Lincoln Center, hosted by Fordham’s Black Law Students Association. Professor Catherine Powell Named Senior Advisor to White House Gender Policy Council
The Eunice Hunton Carter Distinguished Research Scholar at Fordham Law joined the White House last month for a six-month assignment as a senior advisor at the White House Gender Policy Council and will be the chief advisor on gender-based violence.

5th Annual January Orientation
Michelle Silverthorn, founder of Inclusion Nation, delivered the keynote presentation for first-year students on Jan. 16. Silverthorn’s talk focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in law school and the legal profession.
This year’s Law in Practice DEI Series included panels on the advancement of gender DEIB in the legal profession; LGBTQ+ advocacy and allyship in law school and the legal profession; and the DEIB landscape in public interest and social justice careers.

Save the Date for Racial Solidarity Network Training
Hosted every semester by the University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Division for Student Affairs, the
Racial Solidarity Network workshop brings Fordham students, faculty, and staff together to explore a variety of concepts connected back to race, ethnicity, and allyship. The spring semester workshop will be offered on Feb. 21 and 28 at the Lincoln Center campus in a two-day format.

| Human Rights Campaign Women LEAD Summit
Evening division student Chantel Mattiola ’26 moderated a panel at the Human Rights Campaign Women LEAD Summit in Los Angeles, California, in mid-January. She currently serves as deputy director at the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, and is a member of this year’s OUTLaws Executive Board.

Kramer Levin’s RJI Scholars
REAL Scholar Mariama Campbell ’26 was selected as a Kramer Levin Racial Social Justice Fellow. As part of the firm’s Racial Justice Initiative (RJI) and as a RJI Scholar, she will be participating in clinics and projects focused on combating racial injustice and inequality this year.
