Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
I am writing to announce that the Buccino Leadership Institute is undergoing a significant transformation in its structure and governance to meet student needs and prepare for future growth. This new vision for the Buccino Leadership Institute is to build on the Institute's national recognition and prominence and continue to enhance its world-class leadership development program that empowers individuals to become ethical, innovative, and effective leaders who drive positive change in their communities and the world.
The aim for this restructuring is to foster a culture of lifelong learning and development, where individuals can continually enhance their leadership skills and knowledge through a robust range of experiential learning opportunities, mentorship, and coaching. Envisioning a future where our graduates become agents of transformational change, driving innovation and progress across a range of industries and career sectors. The Buccino Leadership Institute and Seton Hall are committed to providing our students with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed as leaders in their respective disciplines and majors.
One of the key changes is that the Institute, which had been operating in coordination with the colleges, will report directly to the Office of the Provost. Executive Director, Stanton Brown, Ed.D., will report to Mary Kate Naatus, Ph.D., Assistant Provost and Dean of Continuing and Professional Education. This reporting structure will ensure that the Institute is strategically aligned with the university's vision and goals and provide a more cohesive and consistent experience for students across disciplines and majors.
The Institute is committed to being a rich resource and valuable, collaborative partner in serving our entire University community in its shared purpose and meaning, creating compassionate leaders in a global society, as we jointly bring reality to our motto, What Great Minds Can Do. We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to continuing to provide the high-quality programming for which the Institute is known and recognized.

NAPC Grant Awarded for "Human Dimension Health and Digital Literacy Initiative"
The IHS library, in collaboration with the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine and their Human Dimension program, was awarded a grant by the Network of the National Library of Medicine All of Us Program Center (NAPC) in the amount of $30,000 for the "Human Dimension Health and Digital Literacy Initiative."
This purpose of this project is to improve the health and digital literacy of individuals in historically underserved communities in New Jersey, and to raise awareness of the National Institutes of Health All of Us initiative. It involves a train-the-trainer health and digital information literacy curriculum for first-year medical students, taught by IHS Librarian Allison Piazza, and the distribution of iPads to participants of the Human Dimension program.
Students are using the iPads to teach their community members best practices for searching and understanding high quality health information on the internet. The IHS Library built an online toolkit with curated resources that is loaded on the iPads and used by students to teach their families.

Faculty Merit Pay Applications Due to Chair/Dean by Tuesday, June 6, 2023
We are pleased once again to continue our Faculty Merit pay process as part of a comprehensive effort to reward faculty. As a reminder, excepting the Law School, the following faculty are eligible to apply for merit: (a) all tenured faculty and (b) all faculty who are presently completing at least their fifth year of full-time service to the University and hold the rank of faculty associate, senior faculty associate, clinical faculty, lecturer, or a full-time faculty position in SHMS or ICSST. Receipt of merit is of course contingent upon renewal of an applicant’s contract for the subsequent academic year.
The important improvements to the Faculty Merit process that were recommended by a faculty committee and implemented last year worked well, so we will continue them. Eligible faculty in departments or colleges that specifically do not have approved merit rubrics and/or merit peer review committees can apply for merit by submitting to the Office of the Provost (john.buschman@shu.edu) and your Dean by August 23, 2023 a simple application that includes (1) a Digital Measures/Faculty Success report for work completed since the last promotion or merit award (whichever is most recent); (2) a short bulleted or narrative justification of merit that speaks specifically to research, teaching, and service relative to disciplinary standards of excellence; and (3) documentary evidence of relevant accomplishments (references for publications, grants, etc.).
We strongly encourage faculty to apply for merit, particularly those faculty who have not yet applied, as we hope to be able to grant more awards this year.
