John Cantiello earns Institute for Healthcare Improvement fellowship |
With support from the fellowship, Professor John Cantiello intends to expand his own capacity to facilitate student success. Cantiello's selection for this program reflects his commitment to student academic excellence.
"My involvement in the fellowship will enhance my expertise in this important area and will contribute to the rigor and currency of our academic programs in healthcare quality,” Cantiello said.

| Larry Cheskin delivers invited keynote at Obesity Week 2024 |
Professors Larry Cheskin, Lilan de Jonge, and Martin Binks attended Obesity Week 2024, the world’s leading scientific conference on obesity. Cheskin delivered an invited keynote talk titled Endoscopic Procedures for Obesity: Balloons, Sleeves, and Beyond.
All three professors noted several important topics including the growing role that both injectable and oral medications are playing in lifestyle management in the obesity treatment continuum; community programs as they relate to preventing childhood obesity; and the potential uses of obesity medicines in cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea, and addictions.

Spring 2025 Canvas updates |
Canvas Trainings for the week of January 13 (this week) include sessions on Turnitin (plagiarism checker), Kaltura, Honorlock, and Poll Everywhere. View the full calendar of Canvas Trainings on the Stearns Center Training Calendar. Canvas also provides live and recorded trainings on their native features. Log into https://canvas.gmu.edu, click “Help”, then click “Training Services Portal.” If you’d like an introduction to Canvas, we recommend the recorded course, “Creating a Canvas Course.” This course is 70 minutes.
Migrated summer 2024 and fall 2024
Blackboard courses are now available in Canvas. Migrated course titles begin with “Bb Migrated…”. If you’d like to opt into teaching with Canvas in spring 2025, complete the Spring 2025 Opt-In Form.

CPH pilot funding CPH pilot research funding program |
The CPH pilot program provides seed funding to stimulate research activity, underscoring our commitment to pioneering investigations and impactful scholarly pursuits.
The application deadline is January 24, 2025, 11:59 pm.
Awards will be made by April 1, 2025, and extend for 12 months.
Investigators may request up to $30,000. In all, approximately 8 awards are anticipated.

ITS announced that AI features were enabled in Zoom. As a follow-up, it is important to understand how to use tools like Zoom AI Companion responsibly and in accordance with George Mason University and state policies. The Zoom AI Companion features are automatically off and must be enabled by the user. Do not enable/use Zoom AI Companion in meetings where protected categories of information will be shared/discussed. Full details are available here.
