DIRECTOR BERT HILL APPOINTED BOARD PRESIDENT
At their January 23, 2026, meeting, the District Board of Directors appointed Director Bert Hill as new Board President. President Hill succeeds outgoing President Gerald "Jerry" D. Cochran, who completed his term on January 23, 2026.
President Hill joined the Board of Directors in 2015 and most recently served as First Vice President. He is one of nine Board members representing the City and County of San Francisco, and is one of the non-elected, public members appointed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. President Hill has an accomplished career in active transportation advocacy, primarily bicycles, including experience as a League of American Bicyclists’ Certified Bicycle Safety Educator, an Expert Witness, and producer of bicycle safety videos. In 2009 he was the recipient of the League’s National Education Award for his Urban Street Skills program in San Francisco. Since 2005, he has served as Chair of the San Francisco Bicycle Advisory Committee and currently serves as Chair of the Caltrans District 4 Bicycle Advisory Committee.
President Hill succeeds outgoing President Cochran, who served as President from January 2024 through January 23, 2026. Director Cochran joined the Board in 2004 as the lone representative from Del Norte County and has served as a Director for over 20 years. Under his leadership, the District completed the Suicide Deterrent System, was awarded a $400 million federal grant for the seismic retrofit of the Golden Gate Bridge, navigated the slow recovery of transit ridership following the pandemic, awarded a contract to purchase two new high speed, low-emission ferries, and approved the MASCOTS transit service plan, among many other accomplishments.
We thank President Cochran for his years of service and leadership to the District and congratulate incoming President Hill on his appointment.
