Picture of the Week

Pictured above: Brebeuf Jesuit students load the bus with all the items that were collected for the Help for the Holidays Drive benefitting the Crisis Office.
The effort put forth by our students, Mothers Association and families prompted this note below to be sent our way:
"We would like to express our profound gratitude to all the students of Brebeuf Jesuit who donated so many wonderful Toys & Teen Gifts to this year’s Catholic Charities’ Christmas Store!  Your donation was awesome in volume and quality!  Last year we served 716 needy families, including 2662 children aged newborn through 19.  In addition to clothing items, hats & gloves, underwear, socks, and a family Household Item, we needed over 5324 Toys/Teen Gifts for our clients.  Thanks to your donation, our client children and teens will have a happy Christmas.  They would not have had any gifts for Christmas without our/your help, and they are invariably grateful for your generosity.
We sincerely hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas, made even more special by the knowledge that you have brought Christmas to others less fortunate than yourselves!  Our thanks go out to each and every student donor and their families!"
- Nancy Hollinden for the Volunteers of the Christmas Store
With the great success of our holiday collection we will continue our #BrebeufDrives campaign with monthly collections for the Crisis Office.  The items for January and February will be winter hats, gloves, tissues, and new/gently used coats.

Student Spotlight

PRESTON FRENZEL '17
Loves about Brebeuf:
I love the schedule here at Brebeuf. The amount of free time we have as well as the freedom we get to choose how to use that time makes it unique and special to me. The fact that I have the freedom to choose whether to get all my homework finished right away or take a break to unwind, catch up with friends, and to see teachers is why I love Brebeuf.
Favorite Class:
My favorite class is English 11 with Ms. Moore. This class has taught me a lot throughout the year and her insights on different aspects of life have really opened my eyes and helped me discover more about myself through an academic perspective. Her class is very in-depth and combines everything we are learning while connecting it to real life - all while making it fun, humorous, and interesting.
Future Plans:
I hope to attend the University of San Diego and possibly study psychology or business. I really want to help those in need and would like to use the skills I learn both here at Brebeuf as well as in college to make the world better for everyone. Whether that be through owning a small business or advocating for those who need a voice, helping others is my main goal in life.
Teams & Co-Curriculars:

Two-time JV Boys Soccer Captain
Student Council
Presidentail Ambassador
Do Something Club
Girls Basketball Manager
Random Fact:
A lot of people don't know that I used to play the cello, but sadly I had to quit when I transferred in elementary school because my new school didn't have an orchestra.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
Yes, Brebeuf is extremely academically rigorous. Even from my freshman year here, in Honors World Civ, I have been faced with tough academics. Having to learn what Mr. Lo expected of me was extremely difficult and pushed me to my limits academically. However, looking back on classes like his has provided a realization that what I learned there will help me for the rest of my life. I still remember the reading assignments he would assign and my difficulty with finishing them because I would start reading only a few days before they were due. Learning how to manage my time and the assignments assigned to me have helped me greatly in my entire Brebeuf career and will help me even more in college.
Would you rather…
Go to the movie theater or stay home with Netflix?
It depends on my mood but usually I'd rather stay home and watch Netflix.
Vacation in Hawaii or Alaska?
I would rather vacation in Alaska because it is a place I'm less likely to visit in my life.
Watch TV or read a book?
I would rather read a book I'm interested in than watch TV.
Travel by sailboat or cruise ship?
I would rather travel by sailboat because it would be more fun and interesting.
Go forward in time or back in time?
I would rather go forward to the future so I can find a winning March Madness bracket and beat my friends' brackets with it.
Favorite Christmas Movie?
My favorite christmas movie is The Grinch.

Veteran Brebeuf Jesuit teachers Ms. Patti Brown (former English teacher, current Learning Center Director) and Mr. Eric Graham (Mathematics teacher) will be teaching the eight-week Brebeuf Jesuit SAT Prep Course to current juniors during Semester II. The four-week English/verbal section (which includes preparation for the analysis essay and the reading and writing tests) as well as the four-week Math section will be taught prior to Spring Break. Students must commit two hours per week for the course, plus any necessary time for homework. The SAT has been completely revamped starting this year. 2015-2016 Brebeuf Jesuit Athletic Program

Sponsored by the Brebeuf Jesuit Dads Club
As has been done for several years running, the Brebeuf Dads Club is sponsoring the production of a printed athletic program to be distributed at home athletic events. The program is issued three times per year - Fall, Winter and Spring.
The athletic program at Brebeuf is made possible in large part due to the generosity of parents, alumni, corporate sponsors and friends. Gifts made to Brebeuf Jesuit on behalf of this effort will be acknowledged with a recognition piece in the athletic program. Generous donors who would like to be a part of the upcoming Winter program can view the giving levels and corresponding recognition piece sizes here.

New Orleans Spring Break Service Trip

Brebeuf will be sending a group of students on the annual Spring Break service trip to New Orleans April 3-9, 2016.  This trip provides a unique experience for students wanting to spend their Spring Break helping others who have undergone the tragedy and destruction of Hurricane Katrina. We will be partnering with Habitat for Humanity and assisting the construction of affordable housing for the residents in need. Students will also explore the city to experience its rich culture and witness the rebuilding of New Orleans first-hand.
Interested students must pick up an application packet in Room 182. The trip is limited to 24 students.
Please contact Karly Geisse with any questions at kgeisse@brebeuf.org or 317.524.7132.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend Trip 2016 - Detroit, Michigan

During Spring Break 2015, Brebeuf students went on a service trip to Detroit. The students observed the spirit of the city, a sense of hope and optimism from its citizens, where the residents continually work to make the largest city in the United States to declare bankruptcy a better place. We wish to continue that profound experience albeit in a condensed version, adding more cultural activities relevant to the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.
We will be participating in a variety of service experiences and take time to explore various landmarks and places that are culturally significant to Detroit including the Charles Wright Museum.
Interested students can pick up a permission packet from Karly Geisse in room 182. The trip is limited to 10 students and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you have any questions or want more details, please contact Karly Geisse at kgeisse@brebeuf.org.
