Happy October, Triton Staff!

One of the best parts of serving as Staff Association Chair is getting out across campus and hearing directly from you. I recently had the opportunity to attend the Chancellor’s Lunch Box Club, where I met staff from across UC San Diego, heard about their journeys to the university, and, most importantly, heard firsthand what matters to them.

I also got to experience something new on campus the Epstein Family Amphitheater and learn more about the incredible arts and cultural programming ArtPower brings to our UC San Diego community.

Those conversations and experiences are a great reminder of just how much there is to discover — and how many opportunities we have to connect with one another.

Speaking of connection, Homecoming is right around the corner, and staff are invited to join the festivities! Kick off the weekend at the Triton Center Block Party, hear from biotech leaders at Biotech’s Big Bets, bring your Triton spirit to Triton Fan Fest, and so much more!

However you choose to get involved this fall, I hope you’ll take an opportunity to connect with colleagues, explore something new, and enjoy being part of our Triton community. See you around campus!

Throughout October, the UC San Diego community is invited to participate in vibrant events in observance of Latinx Heritage Month.

This annual celebration aims to showcase the intersectionalities of Latinx people and Latinx culture and build community among students, faculty and staff.

Looking for a new spot to grab coffee or lunch on campus? Cecil’s, is a weekday café open to faculty, staff, and students. 

Stop by throughout the day for locally baked pastries, Peet’s coffee, Mighty Leaf teas, and grab-and-go options. Cecil’s serves a house-made lunch menu (11 a.m. - 3 p.m.) featuring a rotating selection of artisan pizzas, sandwiches, and salads.

Open Weekdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The UC San Diego Passport Office has added a new location! Passports @ The Bookstore makes it easier for students, staff, and faculty to access passport services right in the heart of campus.

Located inside the UC San Diego Bookstore, the office offers same-day appointments for passport applications, photos, and document photocopies.

Open weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Make time for movement, connection, and a little fun this fall! Employee Wellness is offering free weekly movement and social wellness activities for campus career staff and faculty!

Tritons Belong presents the inaugural Chancellor’s Dialogue for Peace Lecture Series event, “Becoming a Restorative Campus: Fostering Community Building and Dialogue,” featuring David Karp. 

The UC San Diego Bookstore’s annual Halloween Costume Contest is back! On Friday, October 30, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m., students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to stop by the BOOkstore in costume and have their photo taken.

Costumes will be posted to the Bookstore’s Facebook and Instagram on October 31, where the campus community can vote for their favorites through November 2 at 11:59 p.m. The top three costumes will win prizes, with winners announced November 3.

University Centers is seeking UC San Diego staff to apply to be mystery shoppers for University Centers vendors and services located at Price Center, Student Center and the Student Services Center. Participants provide anonymous feedback on their dining and service experiences that are shared with vendors to help make informed decisions and improvements.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is hosting a FREE College & Career Fair on Sunday, November 1st. Middle school, high school and college students, as well as career-ready professionals, are encouraged to attend.

Connect with colleges, universities, and employers to explore undergraduate and graduate programs, internships, and career opportunities.
