| KU Design Symposium Lecture Series: Siobhán Gallagher | Illustrator

Siobhán Gallagher is a Canadian visual storyteller known for her humorous and insightful illustrations. Her work has been featured by clients such as HarperCollins, The New York Times, Penguin Classics, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Netflix. Siobhan is the author of In a Daze Work and Who Do You Think You Are?, and a humor contributor to The New Yorker. Her art has been showcased in US Weekly, The Huffington Post, and AIGA Eye on Design. Siobhan is a recipient of the Society of Illustrators’ Silver Medal of Excellence, highlighting her talent and unique voice in the illustration world.

Parade of Hearts are looking for bold, creative submissions that represent a fusion of art, culture, and community. The design you submit has the potential to become a key piece of Kansas City’s cultural identity as we look ahead to 2026.
The mission of the Parade of Hearts is to unite the Kansas City region through a public art experience that celebrates diversity, elevates unity, while supporting local nonprofits, and energizing the regional economy. By placing artistically designed heart sculptures throughout the area, the initiative aims to showcase Kansas City's identity as the "Heart of America" and foster community engagement.
This is more than just a design—this is an opportunity to create a form that will be part of representing the Kansas City region on the world stage, especially as we approach the global spotlight of World Cup 2026. The chosen design will be featured as part of the ‘26 Parade of Hearts, a prominent public art initiative, and will play a key role in showcasing our city’s creativity and spirit.

Hart Howerton 2025 Travel Fellowship
The Hart Howerton Fellowship provides students with an opportunity to enrich their education with both travel, research and office experience. The program is accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate students in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design or interior design who will be entering their final year of study in September 2025.
Award: $20,000 + travel expenses

Smith Group JEDI Scholarship
We created the SmithGroup Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (J.E.D.I.) Scholarship Program to create a more diverse and inclusive design industry by providing students with opportunities to pursue their academic and professional goals.
Each year, we award five scholarships to students demonstrating a commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the design industry. The scholarship includes a one-time award of $6,000 to offset the recipient’s tuition at their current academic institution. Additionally, scholarship recipients serve as paid summer interns at SmithGroup offices across the United States (internship is a program requirement).

This book is an exhaustive compilation of cover artwork from some of the most important and beautiful library records produced throughout the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s.
