- Matthew Rever, a senior lecturer with Health and Exercise Studies, was solicited to co-author an article for the Advanced Diving Techniques section in the Q3 2023 Alert Diver magazine, published by the Divers Alert Network. This is the second article that he was asked to write for the magazine this past year. He was asked to write the most recent article based on his diving expertise and knowledge of river/fossil diving. His first article for Alert Diver appeared in the Fourth Quarter 2022 issue, titled “Practice Crucial Skills”. In that article, Rever described an incident where he provided breathing gas to a pair of divers. His intervention was instrumental in preventing a significant injury to one or both of the other divers. Alert Diver magazine has a print distribution of approximately 330,000 US households in addition to the online presence.
- HES lecturer Suzanne Gerrier-Williams was recently accepted into the 2023 Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.
- Fatoumata Diawara, a renowned African singer song writer and guitarist is playing at Stewart Theatre on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in a show presented by NC State LIVE. Hailed as one of the most vital standard-bearers of modern African music, Diawara is touring the world sharing her inspiring music. Tickets are $20 for NC State faculty and staff.
- Prevention Services is hosting Fresh Check Day on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Stafford Commons. This is an uplifting mental health fair that includes peer-run interactive booths, free food, music, and exciting prizes and giveaways.
- The This is Not: Adlwyth in Retrospect exhibit at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design closes on Oct. 7. The exhibit celebrates the life and work of the one-name artist. Now in her late eighties, she has lived and worked in the same octagonal studio/house at the edge of a salt marsh on a small island adjacent to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, since 1980. For more than six decades, Aldwyth has been producing significant work in relative seclusion from the larger art world.
- NC State employees can sign up for WordPress Accessibility Day, which will be hosted via Livestream on Sept. 27-28.
- Registration for the 22nd Shelton Leadership Forum, set for Friday, Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Shelton Leadership Center, is now open. The course is available both in person and virtually via Livestream, and is free for NC State students, faculty and staff.
- During National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) in October, the Office of Information Technology is partnering with the NC State Department of Computer Science, the ePartners Program, and CISCO to bring “Tidy Up Your Digital Tracks” to encourage you and everyone in the campus community to review and change how you use and store data at NC State and home.
