A Successful January

Watershed Group Meeting

Thank you to all who attended our January 9th Watershed Stakeholder Meeting. We had a very diverse group of people in attendance with ten different organizations and agencies represented! The presentation by the USFS Carson District about the West Carson Project sparked a great discussion. AWG provided updates on our restoration projects including a new project testing for contaminants of emerging concern in STPUD effluent delivered to Alpine County. We also shared information about our new education program at Diamond Valley School as well as our partnership with the Washoe tribe to create more environmental education programs for youth in the community. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 6:30-8pm (location TBD).

Carson Water Subconservancy District and

Carson River Coalition to Hold Water Summit

On January 30th, the CWSD and the CRC will be hosting the 2018 Water Summit featuring speakers from across the Carson River Watershed presenting on different watershed and climate issues. Topics to be discussed include water law regulations, snowmelt and runoff in Carson Valley, and the climatological future of the Carson River. Organizations represented include the USGS, NDEP, DRI, and more. This is a great opportunity for networking within the watershed and beyond.

River Rally 2018

River Network, a hub for engaging people from across watersheds, is hosting their annual River Rally from April 29th through May 2nd in Olympic Valley, California. River Rally “is a national conference for river and water champions.” River Rally’s goal is to connect people from  different industries, organizations, and academia to come together in the cause for “rivers and water issues” as well as create leaders to sustain the movement. The 2018 program includes workshops, field trips, speakers, and networking events that center around water conservation and watershed protection. The five workshop themes are:

- Reconnecting to Rivers Through Restoration and Recreation
- Mobilizing Change Through Policy, Advocacy, and Civic Engagement
- Making Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Real
- Expanding Impact Through Science, Technology, and Monitoring
- Sustaining Strong Leaders, Organizations, and Coalitions

Scholarships to attend are also available (applications due on February 1st).
