Council of UC Staff Assemblies Engagement Survey Launched May 10th
Survey available: May 10 - June 4
On May 10, the University of California initiated its 5th systemwide Staff Engagement Survey. The survey was developed by the Council of University of California Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) in collaboration with Systemwide Human Resources’ Employee Relations department and Willis Towers Watson, a firm conducting the survey on UC’s behalf. It is designed to help assess the level of involvement, commitment, and satisfaction staff feels toward their work.
About 20,000 of UC's non-represented (policy-covered) staff were selected to participate in the UC Staff Engagement Survey. During the week of May 10, some non-represented staff should have received an invitation from Willis Towers Watson. This is not spam; please do not delete the email invitation. We encourage staff who receive invitations to participate as the UC San Diego Staff Association uses the results to identify initiatives that will help make positive changes on our campus. The survey is entirely confidential; individual responses to the survey and personally identifiable information will not be shared with UC.
The survey closes on Friday, June 4. For more information related to the Systemwide Engagement Survey, download the Frequently Asked Questions.

Council of UC Staff Assemblies Town Hall
We invite you to join CUCSA (Council of UC Staff Assemblies) for our spring UC-wide town hall via Zoom on Thursday, June 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Although CUCSA is representative of policy-covered staff, all staff across the UC system are welcome to attend.

There is a 300 person limit in the zoom room during the meeting; please be sure to register so that you can receive a link to the recorded session if unable to join live.
This year’s workgroup topics are:
- Flexible work with an emphasis on Telecommuting
- Staff Advocacy with an emphasis on Compensation

CUCSA is working hard to make UC a better place for all staff and we need your help to make it even better.
We hope you’ll join us!

Tammy T. Blevins Honored with the Kevin McCauley Memorial Outstanding Staff AwardEach year the Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) accepts nominations for the Kevin McCauley Memorial Outstanding Leadership Award. This award is designed to recognize staff members at the university who are supportive and inclusive of UC staff, encourage equity, diversity, and community, forward thinking, and do not compromise quality. The UC San Diego Staff Association Executive Board nominated Tammy T. Blevins, and we are proud to say that Tammy was selected as one of the recipients this year!
Tammy is the Associate Director of Faculty & Staff Giving and has 15 years of service. She serves as the Chair of the Black Staff Association and is the BSA representative for the Staff Association Executive Board. She is also involved in the San Diego Organizing Project (SDOP), the Black American Political Association California (BAPAC) – SD, and the Black Leadership Alliance Council (BLAC@UC).
Under Tammy’s leadership, the BSA mounted an amazing response to the anti-Black racism facing our nation, community and campus. This response included the hosting of numerous Zoom webinars for staff to process their emotions throughout the social unrest that followed the death of George Floyd. The BSA also developed and hosted a four-part webinar series with Dr. Starla Lewis entitled “Born Free – Healing & Transcending Racism.” This series provided a safe space for the campus community to discuss, understand, and address systemic racism.
The BSA also collaborated with the Staff Association Executive Board on a highly engaging four-part speaker webinar series led by Shola Richards that provided the audience with the information, strategies, and critical actions necessary to engage in and sustain anti-racism.
Many of Tammy’s colleagues and friends wanted to wish her congratulations. Thank you to Dennis McIver, our fellow CUCSA representative from UC Riverside for putting together this special video.

From the University of California - Comment on Proposed Revisions to UC’s Native American Cultural Affiliation and Repatriation Policy
The policy reflects extensive input received from tribes, UC faculty and staff and other key stakeholders.
The university is committed to the repatriation of Native American human remains and cultural items in accordance with the federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), its accompanying regulations, and CalNAGPRA. The fundamental importance of facilitating the repatriation of Native American and Native Hawaiian human remains and cultural items undergirds the policy. We look forward to the implementation of this policy. UC is committed to bringing the ancestors and their cultural items home.

Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Establish White Allyship Initiative
In response to our campus community’s desire to strengthen White allyship, the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion established the White Allyship, Action & Accountability initiative. The initiative aims to holistically and comprehensively promote anti-racism by strengthening White-ally engagement in efforts to mitigate bias and to deepen White-ally involvement in educating on anti-racism and driving racial equity at UC San Diego.
The White Allyship, Action & Accountability initiative serves as a self-directed learning plan to develop and deepen White-ally capacity to identify, engage, and actively promote anti-racism and a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus. The resources provided are designed to be self-paced and are intended for White faculty and staff to complete individually, or as a group, to encourage accountability and enhance the overall learning experience. The desired outcome of the initiative is to contribute to a more robust campus culture and climate of care by leveraging the collective leadership of our institution and collaborating with diverse groups of campus partners.
For more information, and to download resources and prior recordings from webinars on this topic, visit Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion’s White Allyship Homepage.
