How about this for your New Year's Resolution? This will be the year you begin composting! Sadly, only about 90 homes here in RVR use a commercial composting service, and we have two right here in Carbondale. Composting is the easiest and most effective way for people to personally reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also creating a nutrient-rich soil amendment. What are you waiting for? It's easy, inexpensive, and convenient. Afraid it will smell in your kitchen or garage? Actually a closed compost container with a lid is less smelly than your garbage. You will be surprised at how little actual garbage you produce once you begin to compost. Compost isn't just food scraps and dead flowers. You can compost paper towels, tissues, corks, pet hair, cotton balls, wooden chopsticks, napkins, and office paper. It's very satisfying to keep these items out of the landfill. Make composting the standard in your home next year and stick to your resolution!

Following the Board’s unanimous approval of the budget at the November Board Meeting, homeowners had the next step of voting on the budget. According to our governing documents, two-thirds of RVR’s property owners would have to vote no to reject the budget to curtail it from going into effect on 1/1/2024. Of the 157 homeowners who voted on the budget ratification, 127 were in favor of the budget, while 30 opposed it. That means the budget goes into effect on January 1, 2024.
Thanks to all of you who took the time to weigh in on the issue.
