My name is Jenifer Solano. I am a first-year student pursuing a major in Neuroscience and Behavior at the College of Science. I was born in Tala, Jalisco, Mexico, but I immigrated to the U.S. when I was two years old and grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. As an immigrant, going to college was not in the books for me. There were moments when I felt discouraged to go to school. For so long, I wondered why I put so much effort into my education when my future was unpredictable. It was not until the springtime of my Junior year of High School that I became a Questbridge scholar, that I felt that there was hope for my future. I had the opportunity to apply for the National College Match and rank 15 different colleges and receive a full-ride scholarship. After a stressful and tiring process, I am incredibly grateful to be part of the Fighting Irish family at the University of Notre Dame; this was one of my top schools!

The Neuroscience and Behavior program at Notre Dame is everything I was looking for. It is challenging and offers a myriad of education and research opportunities. The devotion Notre Dame has to its students and professors is exceptional, and I can grow to reach my career aspirations. Physical therapy is an intriguing career that is continuously changing and evolving. Being a part of the NSBH major gives me the power to gain knowledge from biology, chemistry, psychology, and even philosophy and apply physical therapy. The bounds of neuroscience are limitless. Mobility is a gift and can easily be taken away from people. I want everyone to have the opportunity to live their life to the fullest and see that things get better, which is like what I’ve been through my whole life- that I’ve been able to see that things can get better.
