Schulich Executive Education Centre Partners with Black-Led Organizations
| |
The Government of Canada has announced an investment of close to $3 million for the Black Creek Community Health Centre (BCCHC) and the Black Creek Community Farm, in partnership with the Schulich Executive Education Centre (SEEC), York University’s Innovation York’s YSpace, and TD-Community Engagement Centre, to support Black-Canadian entrepreneurs and businesses in Humber River-Black Creek.
The funding comes as part of the federal government’s first-ever Black Entrepreneurship Program, an investment of more than $400-million to support the long-term success of Black entrepreneurs and business owners in Canada. Read more

Education Connect: Reimagining Business Education in a Post-Pandemic World
On August 12, the Schulich School of Business in partnership with CNBC-TV18 and News18 hosted Education Connect to discuss "Reimagining Business Education in a Post-Pandemic World" addressing the new challenges, technological advancements and societal changes post-pandemic. Speaking with CNBC's Mugdha Kalra were Dean Detlev Zwick, Hollis Sinker (MBA '15), Executive Director, SSIR and Kiridaran (Giri) Kanagaretnam, Associate Dean, Students. The panel spoke about the integration of technology, modern capitalism, specializations and graduate degrees at Schulich, the growth of digitization, artificial intelligence, data science, and the transformation of existing industries. Schulich alumni participated in an engaging professional development workshop on August 18 to answer the question “Has COVID-19 Changed Change Management? “ with facilitator Jordan Berman (EMBA ’06), Senior Faculty member, SEEC. Attendees appreciated the opportunity to rethink how the fundamentals of change management have not changed but the factors influencing our response have and how understanding the emotions and art of change can give leaders the flexibility to account for differences in how people respond.

Victoria Granova (BBA '15), founder of CyberToronto, is leading the way for young women in the industry. CyberToronto is a cybersecurity conference that focuses on educational and training opportunities for information security professionals. Victoria was also awarded Canadian Security Magazine's Top 10 Under 40 Award in 2021.
Heather Ricciuto (BBA '89), co-founder of CyberDay4Girls, and Talent Outreach Manager at IBM Security is passing off her wisdom and mentorship to students through CyberDay4Girls and IBM's Women in Security Excelling Business Resource. Farrukh Saleem (BBA ’18) describes his time at the School as both challenging and nurturing. Sharing his best Schulich memory, Farrukh circled back to his first year when he attended the annual Alumni Recognition Awards in 2014: “I had always known that our School produced some of the world’s most influential business leaders, but seeing many of them together under one roof and hearing about their Schulich journeys created an atmosphere of excellence and inspiration that made me reflect on the type of legacy I wanted to leave behind after I graduated.”
Last year, Farrukh made his first gift to the Schulich Annual Fund and joined the Dean’s Society, the School’s premier leadership-level giving society. Farrukh experienced first-hand the power of paying it forward: “I received a scholarship while a student for which I remain grateful to this day. To celebrate Jack’s all-encompassing generosity, the legendary accomplishments in his career, and the indelible mark that he left within the community, the Jack Leitch Award in Entrepreneurial Thinking has been established at the Schulich School of Business. This award will recognize and empower incoming MBA students who embody Jack’s entrepreneurial spirit and acumen, while also demonstrating experience in innovation, product design, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
