Read with Lakers Homegoing Logo
There's still time to join us as we discuss the next book in our Read with Lakers series: “Homegoing” by Yaa Gyasi. Participants will be divided into breakout rooms with a discussion leader to dive deeper into the themes of the book and your reading experience. The virtual event will take place on March 15, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. EST. The discussion will conclude after one hour.

Submissions for Alumni Award nominations are being accepted until March 25, 2022. Highlight distinguished alumni, outstanding educators, and/or young alumni that you feel are making positive contributions to society and the GVSU community.

The office welcomed two new staff members, Ashlyn McDonald ‘20 and Alex Priebe, on February 7, 2022, and celebrated the promotion of Kyle Barnhart ‘14 into a new role on December 13, 2021. Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Ashlyn, Alex and Kyle!

Fatma Mili has been named the next provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs at GVSU. Mili is currently the dean of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and previously held a postion at Purdue University as the department head of computer information technology. She will begin her new role in July.

Attend the upcoming GVSU Arts Celebration event for an evening of poetry. Grand Valley's Poetry Night has a two-decades-long tradition of bringing acclaimed poets to West Michigan to share their work with the GVSU community. This year’s event pairs nationally celebrated and award-winning poet Danez Smith with two local poets: Ericka “Kyd Kane” Thompson and Marcel “Fable” Price.
