Congratulations Class of 2026
Congratulations to the class of 2026! The Office of Undergraduate Research is proud of our U students, and we know that undergraduate research contributes to student success. Every year, the Office of Undergraduate Research connects with students and the broader community, connecting with over 320,000 people in a given year. To fulfill the University mission, undergraduate research experiences provide students with real world, hands-on experiences, where they solve societal problems. 93% of students who participate in research graduate within 6 years. Additionally, we are pleased to announce that 180 students earned the Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation and will don a white cord during graduation with early applicants’ names appearing in the commencement program. We know that our undergraduates go on to graduate studies and have high job placements, we are so proud of the future thinkers, leaders, scholars, and researchers.
OUR is committed to bridging the role of academics and research, therefore, we are launching the University of Utah Summer Undergraduate Research Scholar Badge. Students who participate in summer research under the mentorship of a U faculty, complete 8 of the education series, and present at the Undergraduate Research Symposium, will earn this Credly badge. We are grateful to our partners with the J. Willard Marriott Library and the Office for the Vice President for Research for partnering to faculty the education series programming. The badging program will further the dynamic offerings at the U including the designation, paid research opportunities, and research courses offered by our colleges and departments, to foster a culture of research as learning.

2026 Spring Research Tours Highlight |
This spring, the Office of Undergraduate Research hosted a series of Research Tours that invited students into labs and research spaces across campus.
The tours were an overall success! As another student reflected: “The tour was thorough and enjoyable regarding learning what each lab does and how one can get involved.”
We are grateful to the faculty, researchers, staff, and students who generously opened their spaces and time to host tours this semester. Special thanks to: the Marriott Library, Neurobiology Labs (Douglass Lab & Maricq Lab), the STARS Lab, the Shiri Lab: Interfacial & Transport Physics and the Speech Acquisition Lab.
