As of May 2014, the Hispanic Chamber will have awarded $1.6 million to 670 Latino students throughout Oregon and SW Washington.

HMC Scholarships range between $2,000 to $5,500 and are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and demostrated community service.

Governor John Kitzhaber will kick off the annual Scholarship Awards luncheon!  This event will also feature a keynote address from Jilma Meneses, J.D., Chief Diversity Officer, at Portland State University (PSU).  Ms. Meneses has over twenty years of administrative, legal, and business experience, including ten years at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).

As Chief Diversity Officer at PSU, Ms. Meneses leads a wide range of global diversity-related programs, including the Office of Global Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of Equity & Compliance, and the Office of Diversity Advocacy.

Off-campus, Ms. Meneses engages the regional community to increase awareness within underrepresented populations that higher education is a tool that not only breaks cycles of poverty and discrimination, but also promotes empowerment.  She drives change and increases opportunity with many community groups including the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber.
