2SHB 1009: Military Spouse Rules Workshop

In 2023, the Washington Medical Commission (WMC) supported the Military Spouse Employment Act (2SHB 1009, chapter 165 of 2023) by submitting a CR-101 to the Office of the Code Reviser. This submission kicked off a review for possible updates to regulations concerning physician assistants (WAC 246-918-076) and physicians (WAC 246-919-397). The goal was to explore how these regulations might be amended to align with the Act, specifically to support military spouses in the medical profession better.

The proposed amendments aim to adjust the current regulations to accommodate the unique employment challenges faced by military spouses in the medical field. Considering these changes, the WMC seeks to ensure that the licensure process is more accessible and adaptable for those affected by military relocations.

The WMC has scheduled an open virtual public rules workshop for
Tuesday, April 2, 2024, starting at 1 pm.
Participants interested in joining the workshop are encouraged to register for the event by clicking below.
