Tips for Grads: Remote learning during challenging times

Personal Effectiveness
As an online student, COVID-19 may not interfere with your learning environment significantly, but it likely impacts everything else — including your job. Many employers are mandating their employees work from home, so if you’re working from home in addition to going to school online, it’s smart to have a plan in order to balance work, school, and your personal life. Here are a few tips during this challenging time:
Set a schedule. You’ve heard it time and time again, but it’s now more important than ever to stick to a schedule. Without one, it’s easy to get sidetracked, lose productivity, and get overwhelmed. Block work time off in your calendar, then be sure to set aside time for studying and learning as well.
Make use of extra time. Without your daily commute to work, you may have extra time in your day to use to your advantage. Don’t forget to factor that into your daily schedule — whether you use it for studying, self-care, or other activities.
Include the kids. If you have young children, they’re likely learning from home as well for the time being. Consider setting up a family study schedule that includes quiet time, so both you and the kids can work on assignments and study.
Take care of yourself. Self-care is important, especially during this challenging time. Take breaks throughout your day to focus and regroup. Connect with others in your household or call or video chat family and friends. If you’re able, get some exercise or take a walk outside to reset.

Wellness: The importance of social distancing

“In addition to minimizing the likelihood of exposure ourselves, social distancing is also an act of generosity and compassion toward others by eliminating our interactions as a possible vector for viral transmission.” – Richard Davidson, Founder and Director of the Center for Healthy Minds and Founder of Healthy Minds Innovations
