Dear Parents and Families,
In the Office for Campus Life, we’re heading into our busiest season! Spring Semester is always full of excitement and speed as we support all student organization events, execute our largest annual events, and get ready for the next incoming class! It may seem early, but our Pre-Orientation and Orientation team has already been hard at work for the Class of 2023.
One of Campus Life’s key roles is to support the events and operations of over 330 student organizations. We had a variety of events this past Fall Semester that served all our students in unique and meaningful ways. For example, The Leonard Carmichael Society (LCS), our umbrella organization for community service, hosted a fundraiser with support from Tisch College that helped secure a new van that now supports their 34 subgroups. LCS is one of our largest student organizations, with upwards of 700 members participating in thousands of hours of community service in the Greater Boston Area. One of our other largest organizations, the Tufts Mountain Club (TMC), hosts weekly adventure trips to local climbing gyms, hiking trails, and trips to their cabin in New Hampshire, The Loj (pronounced “lodge”!). TMC has close to 900 members who utilize free equipment rentals, engage in peer-led trips, and spend time getting active outdoors each semester.

Career Corner: Conversations with the Tufts Career Center

Focus on Interviewing

As we often tell students, interviewing is a skill -- the more you practice, the better you’ll do! Whether it’s an internship, job, or grad/professional school interview, we help students prepare for these conversations in 1-on-1 mock interviews, giving them opportunities to talk through answers to challenging questions and providing them with immediate feedback.
We’re also excited to offer a new online training system, Big Interview, which students can use 24/7 to access these tools (and more):
  • Challenging virtual mock interviews for all experience levels
  • A database of thousands of interview questions, including a variety of industries and graduate/professional school questions, along with tips on how to answer them
  • A step-by-step interview answer builder for crafting answers to behavioral questions

What's Happening Academically?

We are halfway through the spring semester and students are immersed in their classes. We encourage students to take the time to review overall requirements for graduation or to review their own transcript to be sure everything is correct.
The Bulletin and the Academic Advising website are good resources for students to clarify the general requirements for their undergraduate degree
Often students make assumptions about what is on their transcript. Is their AP credit for English on their transcript? Did their language placement exam results get posted? Does the course listing for the semester match what they believe they are taking? Students can answer all these questions by logging into SIS and viewing their unofficial transcript. This is worth doing each semester.
