Dear Returning Undergraduate,
All Tufts students are required to have health insurance (it’s a Massachusetts state law).
All students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the student health insurance plan at Tufts.
If you are covered by a separate policy through a U.S.-based insurance company that includes comparable coverage to the student health insurance plan you may apply for a waiver and receive a credit to your account.
Students with comparable health insurance coverage can apply for a waiver of the university’s plan between now and July 31 in the Student Information System (SIS). A waiver must be completed annually. If you had a waiver this past year, it is simple to submit your waiver again in SIS.
If you have already waived between June 1 and July 31, 2023, no further action is needed. If your waiver was approved, you can check your SIS account for a Student health insurance waiver credit.
Also, if there is no option for a waiver in your SIS account, the student health insurance has not been assessed to you because of your status (for example, PhD students whose insurance is paid for by their academic department, post-baccalaureate students, and part-time students).
If you do not request a waiver by July 31, you will be charged for the student health insurance for this year. Disenrollment and/or refunds are not available after July 31. Voluntary disenrollment is only available upon entering the armed forces.
You can learn more on our Student Health Insurance website.
