Doreen Champaco Finds Solutions and Lost Items for Thankful Travelers
Doreen Champaco (she/her), with the Port of Portland, was nominated by two PDX travelers for her outstanding customer service in the Lost and Found office:
Nominated by Susan, a PDX traveler:
"I misplaced my driver's license as I left the ticket counter. After retracing my steps and searching my purse and the ticket counter several times, we decided to rush home for my passport...though I wasn’t sure I’d make it back in time to board.
I called Lost and Found as we waited for an Uber and spoke with Doreen who helped fill out a lost item report. She also let me know that I could pass through the TSA security checkpoint with extra screening instead of speeding home for my passport.
Once I completed the screening process, I checked my phone and saw that I had a missed call and a text with a photo of my driver's license attached! I got in touch with Doreen, and she told me that she was on her way to our gate with my driver's license.
Her kindness, problem-solving ability and thoughtfulness were so unexpected and appreciated that it made me cry. What started out as a very stressful morning became a great beginning to our vacation. She's an incredible employee and a wonderful ambassador for PDX. I'm so grateful for her help and can't thank Doreen enough."
Nominated by Sheila, a PDX traveler:
"Doreen was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help find my husband's lost iPad. She even called after work hours to let me know it had been turned in and was especially helpful giving directions to their new office location. When I picked it up, she treated me like a family member and even remembered my name! I never write reviews, but she definitely merited one!"
Nominated by Liana, a PDX traveler:
"Doreen hit all the core values – friendly, knowledgeable and respectful. I left my laptop behind when flying out of PDX. When I called the next day, Doreen provided exceptional customer service. As you can imagine, losing something like a laptop is stressful. She was able to quickly find the item, confirm its safety and provide me detailed instructions on how to pick it up. And she did all of this without any sense of frustration or exasperation. Thanks so much, Doreen!"

What’s New with PDX Next: Ticket Lobby Work

North Bypass Crane Pick: On Friday, March 1, from 12:30 to 4 a.m., crews will use a crane over the north bypass. While the crane is in use, there will be five intermittent, 10-minute closures of the bypass. The first three closures will also impact access from the TSA checkpoint to Concourses D and E. In urgent or emergency situations, the work can be paused to let an employee or passenger through, and access to the emergency door in the bypass will remain open.
Baggage Claim: Last week, crews removed the temporary wall at baggage carousel 2 to create more room and provide access to the common use baggage claim podium. Carousel 2 remains closed; we’ll keep you posted on when it returns to service.
Concourse C: There may be elevated noise levels through Friday, March 1, as crews remove part of the façade from the exterior of the building. All work is outside, but noise levels will be most noticeable near Lardo, Stumptown and Capers.
February Forum: Mark your calendars for tomorrow – Tuesday, Feb. 27 – at 10:30 a.m. to get the inside scoop on construction at PDX. Take a Sneak Peek Behind the Construction Walls
For those eager to see what progress we’ve made, here’s a look behind those temporary walls at PDX. Three cheers to the local folks working oh-so-hard on this project. We keep getting closer and closer to when you'll get to wander amid the trees and enjoy the (cloudy) skies through the Douglas fir roof skylights.

Celebrate Women’s History Month with PDX People
The month of March is for and about women, as we celebrate both Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8.
The month and the day increase awareness and recognition of the contributions of women, and celebrate not only how they shaped history, but also how they continue to make history and shape the future.
In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8, 1980, as National Women’s History Week, and in 1987, Congress designated March as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, each president has issued an annual proclamation designating the month of March as Women’s History Month.
You can celebrate with the PDX People community by heading to Juliett on Thursday, March 8, for snacks, mocktails, music and to learn about women in aviation. Take moment to read more about this month and learn about the groundbreaking women in aviation highlighted at Juliett:

The theme for 2024’s Black History Month honors the vast contribution of African Americans to the Arts, and we've been celebrating at PDX with performances from local Black creatives.
In February, we welcomed Nafisaria Mathews and Alonzo Chadwick (pictured above) for special performances in the terminal. A big thank you to Nafisaria and Alonzo for sharing their incredible musical talent with PDX; and to A.BL.E, the Port of Portland's Alliance of Black Employees, for partnering on our Black History Month celebrations!
