| We Still Want to Ask Our College Kids, "How Was School Today?" |
Let's face it- as much as you'd love to hear from your student every single day, this may not be the norm once your student begins their college years or journey into adult life. Melissa Fenton, writer for Grown and Flown, discusses this realization that all parents and family members have when their child grow up. She says, "Adjusting to not hearing my son’s voice every day was one of the biggest emotional hurdles I had to get over when he went away to college. It took a lot of self-talk to remind myself that this is the normal progression of life, and not talking to my child daily is actually what we want to happen as parents. " (Fenton, M.)
Although it may be difficult some weeks, we encourage you to set aside a certain time out of the week for you to hear your student's voice! Whether it's a phone call or facetime, savor the special moment with your student- give them some grace, and listen intently. Click the link below to gain insight on all that Fenton has learned from her experiences with this topic!

| Student Emergency Relief Fund |
Unexpected life events, personal crises, mental health struggles, or academic difficulties are all examples of challenges that can interfere with college success. The Dr. Rosie Phillips Bingham Student Emergency Fund was set up to aid UofM students facing financial hardship which would otherwise interfere with their success at UofM. The fund provides limited emergency awards to currently enrolled students who experience unexpected or temporary expenses. Requests for help with rent, utilities, medical and child care are the most common requests.
The number of students helped by this emergency fund is limited by the resources available. We welcome donations from faculty, staff, students, families, community members, and others who have the ability. Your generous donation will allow this important support program to remain and grow!
