IN THE SPOTLIGHT

David Karpf recieved a lot of media attention after making a joke comparing New York Times columnist Bret Stephens to a bedbug on Twitter. He was quoted by The Washington Post, The Daily Beast, and Slate. Inside Higher Ed and The Chronicle of Higher Education covered the story; among other outlets. President Trump's response to the feud was included in a USA Today story.
Karpf appeared on a segment of NPR's All Things Considered and on BuzzFeed News AM2DM.
Karpf authored for The Los Angeles Times the article “Op-Ed: I made a joke about Bret Stephens and bedbugs. His response was never about civility.’’ This article also appeared in the San Diego Union-Tribune. He also authored “I Called Bret Stephens a Bedbug. Then He Tried to Squelch My Freedom of Speech. What a Day” for Esquire.
Peter Loge was quoted by Sinclair Broadcast Group in the article “Democrats take aim at the media.” This is the first TV mention of the Project on Ethics in Political Communication, of which Loge is the director.
Jason Osder was quoted in the Washington Post article about a shootout in Philadelphia, “The standoff in Philadelphia ended with zero fatalities. That wasn’t the case in 1985.”
Ethan Porter made a podcast for the Niskanen Center on “How Presidential Debates Influence Voters.”
Nina Seavey is a featured expert in two Sage Knowledge online courses, “The Making of  Documentary Film” and “The Role of Documentary.”  The videos are part of The Media, Communications, and Cultural Studies Video Collection of Sage Publishing.
Cheryl Thompson received a National Association of Black Journalists Salute to Excellence Award for The Washington Post for Investigative Coverage in a Magazine for her look back at the case of the unsolved murders of six black girls in the District in the early 70s, which still haunts retired D.C. police detective Romaine Jenkins. The homicides, known as the “Freeway Phantom Murders,” galvanized Washington and are believed to be the District’s first serial killings. The crimes long ago faded into history, but Jenkins’ obsession lives on.
Rebekah K. Tromble spoke to WNYC-FM’s “All of It With Alison Stewart’’ about her research in the segment “Is Civil Discourse Possible on Twitter?’’
Silvio Waisbord was quoted in “El mal online. Cuando el odio en las redes se vuelve viral,” a story on online hate speech in Argentina's La Nacion.
