Cooks Up Thanksgiving Fun

This three-day event Nov. 24-26 at Jamestown Settlement and American Revolution Museum at Yorktown examines colonial foodways  – from harvest and cultivation to old-fashioned cooking and preservation. See "The First Official Thanksgiving" film, a 2019 Commemoration legacy project produced by The Community Ideas Stations (WCVE).

Trade in early America between English colonists and American Indians is the focus of this Jamestown Settlement special exhibtion. Visitors can hone bartering skills and trade for glass beads and corn in the outdoor living-history areas.

Revolutionary War Southern Campaigns Lecture Free to Public November 12

Author John Buchanan will present "A Great and Good Man: Nathaniel Greene and the Road to Charlestown" at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, as part of "The Southern Campaigns, 1775-1782, Symposium." 'A Colonial Christmas' Explores

Period Holiday Traditions 

Compare English and early Virginia holiday traditions in December with greenery, fancy cooking and, Dec. 23-31, period musical entertainment at both museums and daily appearances by the Lord of Misrule at Jamestown Settlement.

Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; closed on Christmas and New Year's days. Jamestown Settlement admission is $17.00 for adults and $8.00 for ages 6-12. American Revolution Museum at Yorktown admission is $9.75 for adults and $5.50 for ages 6-12. Save 20% with a combination ticket to both museums: $21.25 for adults and $10.75 for ages 6-12. An annual pass to both museums is $35.00 for adults and $17.50 for ages 6-12; special online offer available for Virginia residents. Children under 6 and locals admitted free.
