25 Years Strong: Thousands of dBC Power Products Still Performing Reliably
This year marks dB Control’s 25th anniversary as an international defense electronics manufacturer. In two and a half decades we’ve made some pretty significant contributions to the industry, including the:
  • First environmentally sealed, ruggedized, hub-mount TWTA for ECM applications
  • First high-power 1kW power output, pulse, Ka-band TWTA for radar applications
  • First lightweight airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar transmitter for military UAVs
  • MPM providing twice the power of previous MPMs, and with 30 percent more efficiency
Since we were founded in 1990, we’ve remained financially strong through two recessions, expanded our facilities to 52,100 square feet, landed multiple defense contracts, were acquired by HEICO Corporation, acknowledged by Congressman Swalwell (US Representative for California’s 15th Congressional District), for manufacturing expertise, and so much more.
Going to Dixie Crow? See High-Power TWTAs, MPMs in Booth #61
If you’re going to the AOC Dixie Crow 2015 event at Warner Robbins Air Force Base next week (March 22-26), be sure to stop by Booth #61 to chat with our team about how we can take your defense system to the next level of power and bandwidth. And be sure to check out these four power products on display:
  • dB-3758 MPM – 1000 Watts pulsed, 9 to 10 GHz, conduction cooled. Applications: Multi-mode radars, SAR, manned and unmanned platforms
  • dB-3840 TWTA – 700 Watts pulsed, 34.5 to 35.5 GHz, outdoor hub-mount Ka-Band. Applications: Radars, test/measurement, antenna pattern, radar cross-section measurements, electronic warfare (EW) simulation
  • dB-4127 MPM – 200 Watts pulsed/CW, 6 to 18 GHz, conduction cooled. Applications: ECM, EW simulation, ground mobile and airborne platforms
  • dB-4410 TWTA – 300 Watts CW, 7.5 to 18 GHz. Applications: Electronic countermeasures (ECM) transmitters, EW simulation
In High Demand: 35 GHz, 700 Watt, Ka-Band Pulse TWT Amplifiers
Operating in the Ka-band is integral for survival on many sophisticated defense platforms. Perhaps that’s why there’s a lot of interest in our Ka-band products. We offer both rack-mount (dB-3860) and hub-mount (dB-3840) Ka-band TWTAs that use a less saturated portion of the frequency band and can transmit at a higher capacity. These custom configured TWTAs are two of our most requested products by defense contractors for radar and electronic warfare simulation applications because of their proven reliability.
MPM Pioneer Meppalli Shandas Returns to dBC
The latest addition to the dB Control team is a familiar face to many. Meppalli Shandas, formerly our VP of Technology and Business Development, has returned to dBC in an advisory position to help sustain our growing presence in the domestic military market. Before he retired from dB Control in 2012, Shandas certainly made his mark on the industry. A three-time SPIE (Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers) committee member, Shandas was recognized as a Microwave Legend and was one of leading contributors to the Tri-Service MPM Program managed by the Naval Research Laboratory in the early 1990s. After joining dB Control in 1999 he proved critical to the development of an entire line of MPMs featuring unparalleled performance and reliability.. In 2008 Shandas was inducted into the AOC Electronic Warfare Technology Hall of Fame for his efforts as a prime innovator of microwave power module technology.
