Thoughts on GA Evaluations
By this time next week, I will have my mid-year GA evaluation in hand. I can't wait to see and discuss how I have grown. After all, October feels like years ago and I have learned so much since then, both in my ELP courses and in my role as a GA in Student Development & Inclusion.
While I can admit evaluations do give me a bit of anxiety, especially being an Enneagram Type 1 (Strict Perfectionist), I do remember an overwhelming feeling of motivation after receiving feedback from my supervisor, Dr. Hubain. Looking at the various categories grounded in the NASPA/ACPA competencies, I knew exactly where and how I could improve and I used these areas as a roadmap to guide my personal and professional development. I am excited to revisit that map to chart my progress and I look forward to the jump start this evaluation will give me as I set out new goals as a higher education scholar-practitioner.
Being able to acknowledge my personal growth and set goals for myself isn't the only benefit of the evaluations however. These evaluations also have a broader impact on the ELP curriculum. It's exciting to think about how we, as GAs and as students, get to shape the program to ensure that it is responsive to our needs as we prepare to be student affairs professionals. With all this in mind, I hope you take the time to reflect on and discuss your growth, your needs, your questions, and your goals when you receive your evaluations later this week!
