Thank You, President Jimmy Carter
As the namesake of our main corridor, President Jimmy Carter has left an indelible mark on our district, the state of Georgia, the country and the world. Having moved to hospice care at home, we plan to honor his great impact through efforts to memorialize him and to say, “Thank you, President Carter.”
Keep your eyes peeled for new ways Gateway85 CID and its businesses will honor our 39th President of the United States.

Landscaping Update
Beautification efforts for Jimmy Carter Boulevard continue with new pine straw installations and landscaping along the boulevard’s concrete islands near Rockbridge Road. While this does pose temporary closures on intermediate lanes, we are excited to share the beauty of our maintained corridor as spring approaches.

Curt Thompson Appointed to GDOT Board
My friend and colleague Curt Thompson recently joined the GDOT State Transportation Board representing District 7. Curt was an original founder of Gateway85 CID – initially named Gwinnett Village CID – and was previously a Georgia State Senator.
We at Gateway85 CID are excited for this new chapter in his professional career and appreciative to know such dedicated supporters represent the CID and its constituents in improving infrastructure and transit for our state and district.

On March 2, the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and Council for Quality Growth held the 2023 State of the County event at 12Stone Church in Lawrenceville.
Nicole Love Hendrickson, Chairwoman, Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, spoke to the county’s accomplishments from the prior year and encouraged community members and local leadership to serve with intention. She also emphasized the importance of the decisions and partnerships made today on the county’s future.
“Our public-private partnerships have kept Gwinnett’s economy strong despite global economic uncertainty,” remarked the Chairwoman in her speech.

While Gateway85 CID is a known force for manufacturing, the CID is also the setting for film projects of all sizes. Vital Pictures, a qualified Opportunity Zone Business, is headquartered at the OFS site – the same location as Gateway85 CID’s headquarters.
“The OFS site is great because we have access to a variety of nearby locations for filming, including access to Atlanta and the airport,” said Will Knochel, co-founder of minority and veteran-owned Vital Pictures. "As an independent studio, it's important to have local support. We're happy to be part of the community and look forward to working with local talent."
Vital’s current projects include a film with Mattel, which marks the first movie the toy company will be making that's not based on their own intellectual property, and a series with A+E Studios, part of A+E Networks, known for hit shows including You on Netflix and Big Sky on ABC. Other projects in the pipeline span across genres including procedural dramas, STEM-focused entertainment for kids, genre films and sitcoms.
“We hope to film Bad Sports, a sitcom about a group of unscrupulous sports agents getting into shenanigans, at OFS later this year,” added Will.
Jay Hernandez (Magnum P.I.) will Executive Produce Bad Sports with Vital Pictures, which features a cast of well-known stars from some of TV's biggest shows.
Georgia’s attractiveness to the film industry and the economic impact they bring to the state, including $4.4 billion spent across the state in fiscal year 2022, is a topic of continued interest to local government officials, business owners and industry professionals. In addition to tax incentives, the metro Atlanta area provides filmmakers with multiple transit options as well as the benefit of flexible locations to set the scene for almost any production type.
Gateway85 CID aims to leverage these advantages to create a film and gaming incubator on the OFS site to attract more industry players and promote the creation of jobs for local Gwinnett citizens in the film and entertainment industries.
Vital Pictures and the emerging film industry make Gateway85 CID incredible. Read our latest economic impact report to see how our CID and its businesses are a major force for prosperity.

Representative Lucy McBath of Georgia District 7’s latest initiatives and political action impacts our CID directly and indirectly.
Representative McBath launched her 2023 Congressional Art Competition for high school students in Georgia District 7. Submissions are due on April 24 at 5 p.m. to McBath’s Duluth office.
As part of her resolve to prioritize the care of seniors and their health, McBath led and, alongside Representatives Angie Craig (MN-02) and Dan Kildee (MI-08), recently re-introduced a bill to cap the cost of insulin at $35 per month, which resulted in insulin manufacturer Eli Lilly expanding a program to reduce the cost of their most commonly prescribed insulins to the set $35 ceiling.

Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) has ignited the unlimited potential of kids and teens by creating safe, inclusive and engaging environments for over 85 years.
“The work Gateway85 does to positively impact our community, especially safety improvements and industry support to facilitate future careers, coincides with our work to keep youth safe while giving them the ability to thrive in Gwinnett County,” said Emily Houston, Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships with BGCMA.
BGCMA has two Club sites in Gwinnett, including the A. Worley Brown Boys & Girls Club in Norcross.
On March 9, Gateway85 CID sponsored the Gwinnett County BGCMAs’ 2023 “Make A Break” For Our Kids Sporting Clays Tournamnent alongside CID businesses like Vulcan Materials Company. All proceeds directly benefitted Gwinnett County youth served by BGCMA, but there are other ways to get involved!
