This reading from Mark shows an immediate call to fellowship. From the very beginning, Jesus calls on Simon and Andrew to come and join him. These early disciples are called by Jesus to be a part of something special as we find out in reading the good news of the gospel. Neither Simon nor Andrew is aware of what is to come, yet they stop what they are doing and listen to this invitation from Jesus.
In our busy, messy lives, we are pulled in many directions. Yet, in the midst of this chaos, there is a voice calling to your heart. This voice is calling you and inviting you to come and follow Jesus. Come and be in fellowship with all of God’s children through the message of love and hope the Jesus brings to the world. We are called through the Holy Spirit, to be in fellowship with Jesus every day. Through our family and friends, the people we meet in the street or at lunch. Jesus calls out and invites us daily to this fellowship of love and caring for our neighbors. What a wonderful gift of grace this is that we can live into this invitation of fellowship with Jesus every day!
Let us pray, Gracious God. We give thanks for this day, and we give thanks for the invitation into fellowship that Jesus gives. Help us to be mindful of this gift from Jesus and to share this wonderful message of love and hope with the world. Amen.
