Junior Modeler Workshops – kids ages 8 to 17 can build their own scale aircraft model. We're offering four one-hour workshops throughout the day. A nominal fee of $5 (first-come, first-served) gets your child a seat and a model. They'll put together their aircraft model during the workshop and then be invited to take it home to paint and apply decals and take a picture of themselves with their model. We'll put the picture in our "Junior Modeler Hall of Fame" album and they'll receive their Junior Modeler card that gets them discounts in our Gift Shop and other fun stuff.
"A Riveting Experience" – airplanes are made up of thousands of small rivets. This hands-on exercise explains what a rivet is, why they're used, and how they work. Guests (young and old) will learn to connect two pieces of metal with a rivet and get to take their handiwork home.
Stomp Rockets – Always a favorite activity, this shows the power of air to provide the thrust necessary to launch a small rocket. Each child will first build their rocket and then, following a countdown, will stomp it into space (or at least 25 feet into the air!)
"Bubble-Mania" – Who doesn't love bubbles?? Well, we've got pools of soapy liquid ready to make enormous amounts of large and small bubbles. Parents and kids will surround themselves in a sea of floating bubbles for fun and laughs.
Build an H2O Bottle Airplane – A Planes of Fame original activity, this is one of our most popular activities for our younger visitors. Taking an ordinary plastic water bottle, we teach the young ones about the parts of a plane as they convert their bottle into their own aircraft. They'll learn the pilot's alphabet and be ready for take-off with their custom plane.
Race in the Air Derby – We've set-up a gravity course and have a number of air racers for young and old to see who's plane is the fastest. Lots of fun.
Plus Much More – we've got several vertical wind tunnels to help explore the career opportunities in aviation. We'll hold a paper airplane contest and we're working on a navigation game. We've got several aircraft and cockpits to visit, plus several great photo opportunities in addition to the over 100 aircraft on display.
