From Chinese Festival in Uptown Oxford to the MUDEC 50th Anniversary in Lux
Hi there,
From Chinese Festival in Uptown Oxford to the MUDEC 50th Anniversary in Luxembourg, Miamians from near and far gathered for many cultural gatherings and reunions during the month of October. The celebration continues this month with one of our favorite weeks of the year: November 12–16 marks International Education Week (IEW), which is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education that draws attention to the value of international education.
The week will begin with the IEW annual keynote address, The Power of a Simple Pair of Glasses, featuring Miami alumnus Dr. Jason Singh. Mid-week, the ISSS Thanksgiving Dinner will bring together the Miami and Oxford communities to take part in this traditional American holiday. Finally, the week will close with the announcement of the International Education Week student contest winners (photos, essays, and videos). Please join us by participating in a wide range of events during this exciting time at Miami!
MUDEC CELEBRATED ITS 50th ANNIVERSARY IN LUXEMBOURG
The Miami University John E. Dolibois European Center celebrated its 50th anniversary this month and we welcomed 700+ alumni back to Luxembourg October 7-11. Many thanks to all alumni, staff, faculty, and current MUDEC students for making the week special. Love & Honor!
The Confucius Institute hosted its 5th annual Chinese Festival at the end of September. The event began at Cook Field with martial arts and kite designing competitions. Then participants headed Uptown for cultural booths and performances. The bright, clear skies contrasted the cold, rainy days that preceded it earlier in the week, and people came from all over the state to take part in the festivities.
The Miami University Center for American and World Cultures (CAWC) hosted an open house in MacMillan Hall to announce new staff members and all of the exciting new initiatives taking place within the center.
