Julia Savino & Megan Schrimpf |
Hi everyone! My name is Megan Schrimpf (left) and I am a Junior in NSBH in the College of Science. I am from Grayslake, IL (northern Chicago suburb) and am in the best dorm, Lewis Hall! While I’m not in class or studying, I’m a lead for Design For America for the Olive Health Center project, wellness chair for junior class council, and active in various ways around the dorm. My goal is to earn my PhD in neuroscience to study memory and aging. More specifically, I am interested in neurodegenerative diseases and how mental illness affects different components of cognition and everyday life.
My name is Julia Savino (right) and I am a current junior studying NSBH in the College of Science with a science computing minor. I am from Long Island, NY, but here, I reside behind the dome in Lewis Hall (#rollchicks). Outside of neuroscience, I volunteer at the LOGAN center, as well as constantly check my fantasy football team. I’ve always been fascinated with not just neuroscience, but how we can integrate technology as a means of therapy and treatment, and hope to pursue a path that encompasses using neurotechnology to help people with autism in my future!
Both Megan and I have many shared experiences that the neuroscience department has provided us with. We met during the Summer London Neuroscience program and realized our many similarities and interests through our classes and from living together! Besides being fellow Lewis chicks, we both are in Labs at Notre Dame; Megan is in The Rose Lab, and I am in the BRAIN Lab where we are currently in the process of setting up our senior thesis.
Outside of academics, we are both involved with Brain Ambassadors where we plan and coordinate Neuroscience related events with the community; the biggest event being the Brain Awareness Fair. We both share a love for helping others, so Brain Ambassadors is a perfect way we can integrate our interests and passions. If you have any questions on how to get involved with Brain Ambassadors, research labs, or study abroad experiences, feel free to reach out! :)
