Member of the MonthCatherine WitherellOur Member of the Month this February is Catherine Witherell, a member of the club since September 2013! Catherine’s favorite activity at Active is swimming, especially the Aqua Aerobics classes. She especially enjoys talking with other members once she has seen them in class a few times. “You never know what you might learn from someone in conversation,” she says. When asked about her favorite exercise, Catherine says “talking with others and laughing at our dumb jokes while jumping around in the water. That exercise should have a name.” We agree!
Catherine has worked out on and off for years but more recently, she’s made a concerted effort to get healthier as she gets older. Amazingly, she has lost 45 pounds over the past 3.5 years, helping her to be the healthy person she has always wanted to be. “Plus, my husband thinks I look fantastic, so thank you very much,” she adds.
When it comes to exercising, Catherine said that her own mind has been somewhat of an obstacle. Making it a priority, like brushing your teeth, has helped her begin to crave the boost to her energy and overall mood.
Outside of the club, Catherine is an artist and maker. “I love making things,” she says. “I wrote an art blog for about 10 years, I am a metalsmith and I have made objects and jewelry.” She’s made handmade books, learned about watercolor painting and “got into any other mischief I could get into with my hands.”
Way to go, Catherine! We’re so happy to celebrate you as one of our awesome members.

Employee of the Month
Baddoura CarteCongratulations to our February Employee of the Month, Baddoura! Baddoura has been teaching Yoga and Group Exercise classes for 9 years. She has been teaching at Active for almost two years now. Outside of instructing group exercise classes, Baddoura enjoys taking classes herself, getting to know members, and listening to the members' stories. We are lucky to have Baddoura. She is very kind and compassionate. Baddoura is always willing to help whenever she can.
Being healthy and staying young motivates Baddoura to stay active. Before getting hired at Active, Baddoura was a member. As a member, the variety of classes offered at Active, the amazing atmosphere, and the knowledge of the staff helped her stay motivated to get better and feel better.
Baddoura has overcome multiple obstacles on her fitness journey. In the last year she had two knee surgeries. Active provided a safe place to exercise so she could regain her strength and mobility.
Baddoura loves all forms of exercise. Picking her favorite depends on the day and time. At Active, she fell in love with the yoga practice swimming. She learned how to swim here at Active at age of 48. She contributed her drive to learn how to swim because she finally found the instructors that she trusted and they took the time to teach her. Baddoura loves the outdoors. Hiking is her passion. Baddoura likes to overcome challenges so she enjoys completing very challenging hikes.
When asked, What is one unique thing you would like the members to know about you? Baddoura responded with, “I don’t take criticism personally, I approach it as a lesson to learn and grow.”
Make sure to stop by one of Baddoura’s classes and congratulate her for earning Employee of the Month! Baddoura teaches yoga on Wednesdays at 11:15am and 6:30pm, Saturdays at 8am, and Sundays at 10am.

On the Blog: February Is Heart Health Month
By Kathy HutchinsonIf your New Year’s resolution was to start exercising and your motivation is starting to wane, finding your “why” can help. Why did you set a goal of starting an exercise program? If your answer is “because I’m supposed to”, it may be hard to stay on track. Try changing your thought process to an overall health approach. Whether it’s playing with the grandkids or running a marathon, it’s all about feeling good and enjoying the things you want to do. It’s about adding life to your years instead of years to your life.
