Annual Opportunity to Recycle Requirements Reminder
With 2026 well underway, we want to take this opportunity to remind you of Oregon's requirement for multifamily property owners/managers of five or more units to provide their residents with adequate recycling service and recycling education at least once annually. Need recycle guides (available in seven languages) to include in move-in packets and at lease renewals? We've got you covered! We also have signs, posters, magnets, recycling bags, and more. You can request free recycling and waste reduction resources using our online multifamily order form.

Do you manage communities outside of Clackamas County? See our list of regional multifamily contacts throughout the tri-county area who are ready to support and advise on your waste prevention, reuse, and recycling efforts.
Mattresses, End Tables, and Chairs - Oh My!
Spring cleaning, move-ins and move-outs, and annual unit checks can lead to the disposal of large, unwanted household items like mattresses, sofas, tables, and chairs. Rather than let them pile up and look unsightly, call your garbage and recycling company to get them removed.
Better yet, educate your residents on how to properly dispose of household items that don't fit in the garbage bin.
1. Donate or Dispose
Usable items in good condition: Find local and online options at www.clackamas.us/recycling/ReduceReuseRecycle
Unusable items: Find disposal options using Metro's What Goes Where tool.
2. Take to the Dump - Haul your unwanted items to the nearest transfer station:
  •      Metro South Transfer Station
        2001 Washington St., Oregon City
        503.234.3000
$47 for up to 240 lbs. (covered load)

  •     Clackamas County Transfer Station
19600 SE Canyon Valley Rd., Sandy
        503.260.1577
$26 minimum for up to 1 cu. yd. (~small truck bed)

3. Work with your Property Manager - Residents can work with their property manager to coordinate pickup logistics and payment with their regular garbage and recycling company. Fees vary by item.
We recommend communicating a process, especially at move-in and move-out time so residents know how to dispose of large household items. Request flyers to help educate residents on the process.

Earth Day Is Coming
Wednesday, April 22, 2026 marks this year's Earth Day. Challenge your community, your family, or your friends to "go green" - the options are endless! Change how you shop, do an art project with the kids by reusing materials, or protect your health and the health of our waterways by properly disposing of unwanted medications - just to list a few ideas.
Shopping - Have you ever paused to consider the impacts of the stuff (and food) we buy? Our "stuff" has environmental impacts throughout its life, not just when we send it to the landfill. Rather than buying new, consider buying used so you can put more life in that item before it reaches the end. By doing so, you prevent all new resources going into another, brand new item. Same applies to food - by eating our leftovers, we make sure the energy and resources (including money) used to grow (and buy) it goes to good use! Find reuse, repair, and rental options at www.clackamas.us/recycling/ReduceReuseRecycle, including an interactive map, and/or learn tips so you Don't Let Good Food Go Bad.
Reuse Art - Reuse can be fun. Gather old magazines and make a vision board or collage as inspriation. Use an old calendar to make an envelope for a home-made greeting card. Consider using an old beverage container as a planter (cut the container in half, put the top in the bottom, add soil and seeds; or keep the container intact, cut a hole in the side, buy some bird seed, and make your own DIY bird feeder. Find countless reuse craft projects and tutorials online!
Drug Take-Back - Many cities participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day - April 25, 2026. Keep our kids and planet safe by properly disposing of unwanted medication. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for an event near you or find year-round drop-off options at MedTakeBackOregon.org
