Inter-University Engineering Doctoral Consortium (IUEDC) has been formed with partnering universities — including Stevens, NYU, Columbia, Princeton, The City College of New York, Rutgers, Cornell Tech and New York Institute of Technology — for sharing Ph.D. courses.

Marcin Iwanicki, PI and CCB Assistant Professor, received an SES award of $5K for his project “SPRINT: Determine DNA Modifications in Response to PFAS Exposure and Remediation.”

Pin-Kuang Lai, PI and CEMS Assistant Professor, received a DOE award of $525K for his project "Toward Metagenome-Scale Metabolic Flux and Free-Energy Analysis via Deep Learning." This award is part of a $1.05M collaborative research grant with UCLA.

Carrie Perlman, PI and BME Associate Professor, received an SES award of $20K for her project “Bridging: Mechanistic Investigations of Surface Tension Effects on Lung Injury and Oxygenation.”

Adam Overvig, PHY Assistant Professor, has been named a Finalist in the 2023 Blavatnik Regional Awards for Young Scientists. One of only six finalists, Overvig was awarded $10K in unrestricted funds for inventing new methods for designing and employing metasurfaces to control and manipulate light and thermal radiation with high accuracy and efficiency.

EH Yang, ME Professor, has been invited to serve on the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Fellows Advisory Committee for four consecutive years.

Team NAM (Never Alone with Me) — including CS master's students João Luís Lins Rodrigues Cruz, Sai Nikhil Reddy Maligireddy, Abhijeet Gusain, Yeshwanth Reddy Peddamallu and CS postdoctoral scholar Dr. Abdul Rafae Khan (pictured with their advisor Jia Xu) — placed second in the fifth annual Alexa Prize SocialBot Grand Challenge, sponsored by Amazon. The team was selected in August 2023 as one of only five teams to compete in the final round of the university challenge competition.

Erfan Amini, CEOE Ph.D. student (advised by Reza Marsooli), received the 2023 American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) Student Educational Award. The Student Educational Award is presented annually to a student whose research is furthering the science of coastal or riverine systems.

CEOE undergraduate students La'Nasya Coleman-Dewitt and Julie Garry each received the Professional Women in Construction NJ Chapter Scholarship. The scholarship aids young women who are interested in pursuing careers in the construction industry.

Mingxiao Liu '23, BME alumnus, has joined the James J. Peters Bronx VA Medical Center as a postdoctoral research engineer. Last spring, he presented his work titled "Multimodal Augmented Feedback for Functional Grasp Training using a Smart Glove and Virtual Reality for Persons with Spinal Cord Injury" at the International Conference on Virtual Reality (ICVR), where it was recognized as an "excellent presentation" in his session.
